a hopeless student

Dyslexia - the word of my illness - the word on my life, and the word on my person. Hopeless cases according to the teachers. Idiot according to students. I was a nobody, I was a zero, I was the one that no one else wanted to be. I was just me!

7. The new school...

Jamie found me. I sat at the end of a corridor, leaning against the wall with my knees under my chin. I cried and I was shaking. He came quietly up to me, sat down on the floor next to me and he took his arm around my shoulder.
"Sorry!"
I hid my face against my legs. I couldn't stand to explain anything and I didn't want to forgive, because there was nothing to forgive.
"I shouldn't have talked to her." he whispered. I felt his second hand on my hair and he pulled his hand through it. "I was just glad I got to hear how you had it. I realized that there was more behind this than just an assault. She has struck you in your entire life?"
I nodded. I sobbed and I continued to press my face against my knees.
"She hated me." I whispered. "I ruined her life."
He shook his head, and he hugged me gently.
"No, it's she who destroyed your life. You were just her daughter, nothing else."
I looked up at him and I tried to see his eyes through the tears.
"It's unfair." I whispered. "Everyone else is so perfect and I have nothing that's good. I can't even write."
He held me tight.
"Yeah, and that's what I'll prove to you." he whispered tenderly. "I'll show you the world, and when we're done, you'll be like everyone else."
I peered at him. He looked at me with burning eyes and I knew he really wanted to fight for my sake.
"You have to understand that I care." he continued. "I wont disappoint you."

I sat down on my, my very own, bed. I saw that grandma had papered the walls and everything looked new. She stood in the doorway and her eyes shone with excitement.
"You like it?"
I nodded and I smiled at her.
"Thank you, grandma."
She snorted and waved with her hand.
"This is just the beginning. I'm gonna give you everything that your mother didn't gave you and you need a teenager's room."
I nodded and I giggled a little bit.
"And I'm grateful."
She agreed and she pointed to the desktop.
"I bought a laptop." she said proudly. "I don't know if it's the best, but Jamie said it's that one that everyone has."
I was surprised.
"You've talked a lot with him?"
She nodded.
"Yes, because we two should collaborate now." she said it cheerfully. "We take care of you, and therefore we need to talk all the time."
It felt odd to have two people who cared. Okay that grandma wanted me to feel good, but Jamie? He didn't even had to think about me. Yet he set up.
"He cares." Grandma said, as if she read my thoughts. "There's something special about that young man and he's passionate about helping you."
I blushed.
"Wonder why?"
She shrugged.
"He might just be a good guy?"
I agreed with, I looked up at her.
"And a new school?"
She nodded.
"He'll go with you on Monday and he wont leave your side. He has promised to watch you like a hawk."
I laughed.
"As a bodyguard?"
She laughed and she nodded.
"Well, maybe as a bodyguard?"

Jamie drove me to school and he walked beside me in to the principal office. There was an old man, and he smiled when we showed up.
"Sara Anderson and Jamie Taylor?"
We stood up and we went into his office. I sat down and I felt how my body shook. The headmaster sat down and he smiled at me.
"I'm Mr. Paterson and I'm the principal."
Jamie smiled and I let him do the talking.
"Have all got the paper now?"
Mr. Paterson nodded, and he took up my folder. He still smiled with his whole face, which I was surprised over.
"Yes, and I have been in contact with the old school. I must admit that there were many faults there."
Jamie sighed.
"That's why I chose to go along with Sara."
Mr. Paterson looked at him for a few seconds. He seemed to ponder.
"Your really burning for your job?"
Jamie nodded.
"Yes and I always want the student to get the best out of school. She has been neglected for so long time that no one cares, but I care."
Mr. Paterson smiled and he turned his palms toward us.
"Peace!" he said quickly. "I believe the same thing and I'm really glad that you are helping her. We will collaborate and this will work." He then looked at me. "I want you to go on the lessons as you should, with Jamie. You must collaborate and then we will see where we end up."
I nodded a little bit. I didn't know what to say. Jamie was completely in the conversation and we couldn't stop him.
"Sara needs someone to read to her, even during the tests and I'm the only one who will take care of that part."
Mr. Paterson nodded.
"Yes, I understand that."

My new class looked pretty okay. It was normal youths and everyone seemed friendly. No one frowned and I only heard kind words. Jamie seemed almost to be my tail and all settled in quickly, that he followed me everywhere.

"He's good-looking?" Kath whispered to me. She was one of those who really wanted to be my friend and I wasn't used to that feeling, to make friends.
"I know!"
She giggled and I saw that she blushed.
"Is he single?"
I nodded and I looked over at Jamie. He was talking to the teacher about tests and other things that I would have to study for.
"God, I'm jealous on you." continued with Kath. "He's like a dream."
I agreed. It was actually the first time that my stomach really tingled when I saw him. He was good-looking. He was perfect, and although I already knew about his wonderful qualities, something changed in me. Jamie wasn't just my teacher, he was a man too. A man who affected my hormones.
"I had flirted with him all the time." she whispered on. "I had seduce him."
I was flabbergasted and I just stared at her.
"But he's my teacher?"
She giggled.
"And?"
I frowned.
"You can't flirt with a teacher?"
She didn't agree.
"He's worth it all." she said meaning. "And who says you can't flirt?"
I just stared at Kath. I saw at her that she liked the idea.
"I'm sixteen years old." I mumbled a little chilly. "And he's... around twenty-five."
She agreed.
"But the experienced guys are the best."

When Jamie came back to me, I noted that Kath started to flirt with him. Jamie was first surprised and then he became almost red in the face. He sat on my other side and he did everything to avoid her. I couldn't help but giggle. It felt as if I sat between them to be a protection, but at the same time I didn't want her to flirt with him.
"Odd friend you have?" he murmured quietly in my ear. I blushed and I agreed.
"She likes you. She thinks your good looking..."
He sneezed.
"She's a student."
The words hurt a little. I realized it would be hopeless if I would fall for him. At the same time was my imagination going and I could almost see in front of me the way he kissed me. Pulled me next to his gorgeous body and how he fondled me.
"You have to try more." he murmured, and he brought me out of my mind.
"Sure!"
Then the imagination was gone.
