Kath pulled me into the toilet and she was angry.
"Don't say that you have lied to me?"
I had no idea what she was talking about.
"What do you mean?"
She snorted and I saw that she was annoyed.
"You are engaged to the hottie?" she snorted. "Right?"
My face went from normal tone to a color that resembled of red. I had no idea what I would say and I felt I got a dry mouth.
"Who are you talking about?"
She took a deep breath, annoyed.
"Jamie, of course!" said she coldly. "Why didn't you tell me? I'm your friend?"
I wasn't sure.
"Because..." I frowned. "The headmaster has said that we can't talk about our relationship."
"Not even to your best friend?"
I shook my head.
"No, not even to you."
It was as if she puffed out. Now she knew! Quickly, she hugged me and then she tried to smile.
"I had wanted to say congratulations." she said. "When did that happen?"
I blushed and I showed her the ring.
Her eyes sparkled and she looked at the ring carefully.
"You are a very lucky girl."
I giggled but then I became uncertain again.
"Don't tell it to a single person. Okay?"
She nodded quickly.
"I promise!" she said and made a cross on his chest. "But I know the truth."
I came upon another good question.
"How did you find out?"
She almost seemed to consider that it was unimportant.
"Come on!" I became interested in what she had heard it. I knew I hadn't told a single person. Kath seemed almost embarrassed. She sighed a little bit and she looked down at the floor.
"A math teacher was talking to another teacher. They said it's a shame that he's engaged and I knew he wasn't engaged before."
She looked at me.
"They are interested in Jamie and maybe a teacher happened to mention your name."
I instantly became cold in the body. I couldn't tell about my boyfriend, but the teachers could tell it to the hole school. Talk to the headmaster hadn't thought about that piece?
"Thank you for telling me."
"I'm glad that I know how it is." she said, as if it didn't matter. "I was just angry that you hadn't told me about it before."
"Sooner or later, you found out about it."
I went straight to the teachers' room. It was the first time I searched up Jamie and it was the first time I knocked on the door. A teacher opened and he looked at me in surprise, when I asked to talk with Jamie. It was as if no one wanted me to come there.
Jamie looked anxiously at me. I tried to get him out of room.
"You know the fact that your colleagues are talking about us?"
I swallowed and I tried to collect myself.
"Kath knows we're engaged and it was thanks to a certain math teacher, who just happened to talk about us and mention my name."
Jamie was quiet. He gathered himself and he seemed to wonder if we would just let it go, but I was already annoyed.
"We go up to the principal's office and tells him the truth."
Mr. Paterson seemed almost embarrassed when I told him what I had heard from Kath.
"And you said we would be silent." I was angry. "Everyone knows for sure about our relationship so why should we hide it."
I felt Jamie's hand on my shoulder. He tried to calm me down, but I was so angry that I couldn't be bothered to listen to him.
"We hide it and we dare not even to talk to each other." I said cool. Mr. Paterson seemed almost silent and he sighed a bit iffy.
"I know that I happen to..." he looked at us. "I apologize and maybe I was a little too hard on you? I heard you got engaged?"
I showed him the ring.
"Yes, we're engaged and we live together and we are planning a life together."
Mr. Paterson nodded, and he saw the ring. He looked at Jamie and he hesitated.
"I understand that you are angry at me." he said, kinder, with a friendly voice. "I guess we can drop that rule and I guess we can let life take its course?"
Jamie took my hand and he gave me one of those look that told me that I would be quiet.
"Yes Mr. Paterson." he whispered. "And let's forget about this and move on with the work at the school?"
"And I have heard that you, Sarah, do it all without help?"
"Yes, I write everything on my own now..."
Mr. Paterson smiled at me.
"You've come a long way since you came here, Sara." he meant well, and my anger flowed off me. I nodded.
"A lot has happened!"
Mr. Paterson smiled and he nodded.
"And I hope that we continue in the same way."
I nodded and we were about to leave the room. Quickly, I turned around and looked at him again.
"So it's okay if I hold my future husband's hand?"
"Yes, we took away the rules."
Jamie just laughed and he kissed me lightly on the forehead. When we came out into the hallway, he was in mischievous mood.
"It's important for you to be open about us?"
"Yes, because I love you and I want everyone to know that you are mine."
He blushed and he stopped. He looked at me and it was like he was impressed.
"You said my words." he whispered lightly. "It's I who will tell everyone to know that you're mine, all mine."
Hmmm .... Life became easier. It was as if I walked slowly into the role of a smart student (with some difficulties still to read and write), and as a good girlfriend. Jamie began openly to kiss me, hold my hand and it seemed like everyone already knew that I was his. It felt like a relief.
Will be more...
