**3 Weeks later**
Castiel pulled up into the parking lot of the hospital on his gleaming motorbike.
He walked up to the large hospital alone. He'd only just stopped going with Sam after accepting that Dean was in a coma and there wasn't anything he could do about it. But Sam was already there he realised as he walked past the Impala to the entrance.
As he walked inside he did his usual ritual of taking a deep breath and praying a silent 'Please.' To God, in hope that Castiel would walk into Dean's room and see him sitting up, and his emerald eyes brighten at the sight of him.
But so far? It hadn't worked.
He walked the familiar route to the room Dean was in and saw the door was shut. Cas frowned in confusion, it was usually opened.
He opened the door cautiously and looked inside.
Sam was standing on the far side of the room next to Dean's bed talking to the doctor.
"Hey, Sam." Castiel said, smiling at him.
"Oh. Cas. Hey." Sam said quietly.
The smile slid off of Castiel's face. Something was wrong.
"Has something happened?" He asked the doctor urgently.
"As I was just saying to your friend here, there's been a change with Dean's condition." The doctor said in a calm voice.
"What change?" Cas asked, walking up to them.
"Your friend seems as if he's... Giving up. His heartbeat is slowing a little every day. It's like he's had enough."
Castiel couldn't speak, he bit down on his lip ring, trying not to cry. He looked at Sam but they couldn't meet eachothers eyes.
"What." Cas choked out.
"He's obviously not conscious but his body's beginning to shut down of its own accord."
Cas looked at Dean.
His Dean. He couldn't give up. He couldn't. Without Dean Castiel doubted he'd even be alive. He couldn't lose him this easily.
"Could you give us a minute please?" He said, looking at Sam and the doctor.
"Sure." The doctor escorted Sam outside.
"Hey baby." Cas whispered to Dean, taking the chair next to him.
"So the doctor said you're giving up? You can't do that. You can't leave me." He took Dean's cold hand and enveloped it in his.
"You have to promise me to try. You probably can't hear me but it's worth a try." He sighed, running a hand through his blue hair with his free hand.
"I love you and I can't live without you. Ha, see what you're doing to me? I've gone cliché!" Castiel let out a bitter laugh and squeezed Dean's hand.
"Come on Dean, my darling. Come back to me. Let me see your emerald eyes again. Hell, you could even tell me one of your facts if it meant you'd be awake."
He stood up and looked out of the window.
"Remember when I first died my hair? You thought it was a wig!" He laughed, watching people drive out of the car park.
"And the lip piercing. I bet you'd still hate it even when you wake up." He smiled at little at the thought.
"Well, the point of this is just that even if you do say something about my hair or piercings as soon as you wake up, I wouldn't care. You would've come back to me."
He walked back over to Dean and placed his lips onto his head.
"So come back to me." He murmured against his forehead.
When he exit the room he didn't notice the heart monitor beep as Dean's heart sped up.
Cas walked around the corner and saw Sam was waiting for him.
"Ready to go?" He asked.
"Yeah." Sam nodded.
"I'm not." Castiel whispered under his breath, believing Sam didn't hear him.
How wrong he was.
After 2 more weeks of visiting Dean every single day, Castiel was searching for a way to stay positive.
He took a walk in a nearby park and saw a couple sat on a bench.
The man on the right have the man on the left a beautiful silver ring.
Then he had an idea.
He would get himself and Dean matching Promise Rings. He knew that he'd give the ring to Dean as soon as he woke up.
He drove across the dingy town until he got to a reasonably decent jewellers.
"Can I- uh. Help you?" The assistant said, eyeing Castiel's Green Day shirt, blue hair and piercings.
"Oh. Yeah. I'm looking to get two promise rings? Nothing big just something simple." He said.
"Let me just get our sales manager to help you." He gave Cas a strained smile before going to get the manager.
A girl came walking towards him with a name badge reading Lyn-Z.
"Hey, I'm Lyn-Z. How can I help you?" She said, smiling.
"I want a promise ring for someone and one for myself that matches but I'm not sure what to look for." Cas said nervously.
"Okay then. What does she look like?" Lyn-Z said.
"Uh. It's a he, actually." Cas said nervously.
"Oh. That's fine." She grinned.
"Well, he has the most perfect emerald eyes." He said, saying the first thing that came to mind about his love.
"I have just the thing." Lyn-Z smiled warmly, going to get the rings.
She returned with two simple bands that, when turned to the light, glimmered gently with hints of blue and green. Perfect.
"How did you know what to find?" Castiel asked her.
"I just did." She smiled at him.
After paying for the rings, Cas left the shop and returned to the hospital to check on Dean.
When he got to his room, Castiel nearly fainted.
It was Dean.
He was sitting up.
Was this real?
Castiel walked slowly towards the door.
"Cas?" Dean said, his voice hoarse.
"Dean?" Cas whispered.
"Dean! I've missed you so damn much!" He noticed Dean's eyes did indeed brighten just like he imagined.
Cas couldn't help but launch himself at his love.
"Woah! Slow down!" Dean chuckled quietly in his ear, hugging him tightly.
"I've missed you too." He said before taking Cas' face his his hands and pressing his lips gently to his before deepening the kiss.
Cas pulled away as he remembered the rings.
"I've got something for you." He grinned at Dean.
"Better not be blue hair dye!" Dean mumbled, making Cas laugh.
"Not quite!" He pulled out the ring box and threw it at Dean, knowing he'd catch it.
And he did.
"What the-?" His eyes widened as he looked at the two rings in the box.
"Promise Rings." Cas cut him off.
He had to stifle a laugh as he could see Dean's eyes filling up.
"You okay?" Cas asked, smirking.
"Yeah. Fine." Dean said in a strangled voice.
"C'mere, baby." Cas opened his arms and Dean walked straight into them, bursting into tears and sobbing loudly on his shoulder.
"Why're you crying?!" Cas said, rubbing Dean's back gently.
"I don't. Know." Dean huffed.
"I've just missed you and the rings and. Just all of this." Dean let out a short laugh, voice thick with tears.
"I love you." Dean whispered.
"I love you too." Cas replied, gently placing kisses along Dean's jawline.
"Missed this." Dean mumbled, more to himself than anyone else.
"Promise you won't leave me again?" Castiel asked quietly.
"I promise, Baby." Dean whispered in Cas' ear.
Cas sighed loudly. Dean was okay.
His Dean woke up. He knew he would and he did.
