6. Chapter 5

"So, are you really sure the plan is going to work out ?" I asked for the hundredth time already. I knew it was irritating her, therefore resulting into my constant questioning.

"God, this is enough ! How many times should I tell you ? I have worked through this. Look, the murderers cannot be anyone in your family. So it's definitely either one of your high school kid. We just have to go and observe them." Ambriel said slowly with an irritated expression as if she was repeating ABC to a child for the hundreth time. I passed her an amused smile.

"Alright. I get it. But I didn't really have any enemies out there. Everything loved me. I was worshipped" I proudly said, flipping my hair to one side dramatically and showing some sass.

"Probably that's what got you killed. Your over-attitude, arrogance, air headed mind, ego, self-conceit, whatever you call it." Ambriel replied amusedly and I gave her a salute from my middle finger. Ambriel rolled her eyes.

"It is really important? I mean, just two days ago we went there. Why not go today somewhere else. We are ghosts ! Come on, we can probably go and visit Eiffel Tower or something !" I effervesced and she sighed.

"You don't want to cross over, do you? Do you really don't want that peaceful afterlife ?" She whispered and I frowned. Why has she suddenly gotten so serious ? She really is very different from all the other girls. She seems tough, yet sensitive. She seems stone-faced, yet has a very kind heart. Well, I can't really say anything much about her since I haven't known her for a long time.

"I do. I just, I just want to experience this too, you know. I don't really want to get away from human life and earth right now. I want to get used to it a bit. And also, take advantage of the situation I am in right now ! We have plenty of time" I re-assured her and put my hand on her shoulder. She stiffened.

Such a weird reaction, I thought. I had just touched her on the shoulder, why did she stiffen up ? I did not want to make her anymore uncomfortable so I removed my hand. She visibly relaxed.

"Alright then. I have a place in mind. We are not going to Eiffel Tower. Just some other place" She showed a tiny smile and I grinned full on.

"Cool ! So were is this place ?" Excitement was clear in my voice like a child on christmas.

"You'll see" Smirking, she took my hand and didn't flinch a bit. It was really confusing to me, she could touch me wherever she wanted, I could hold her hand. But whenever I tried to touch her arm, or shoulder, or hair or perhaps any other thing, she would flinch and stiffen up.

While havin those thoughts, in a period of probably a nano-second, we were in a whole new place.

The smell of moss and decaying leaves entered my nose and I scrunched it up. I peered around, and found various tombstones here and there. Few were broked and tumbled. There were many unwanted weeds on the ground within thick uncut grass. Moss and lichen was growing on those tombstones with weather-worn inscriptions. I felt very close, oppressed, and creeped out.

This was a cemetry, and a rather unkempt, neglected one. I wonder what we were doing here. As if reading my expression, Ambriel answered that for me.

"You just noticed the appearance of the cemetry. Look closely, feel it and then tell me" Ambriel smiled and I held a confused expression. I stepped a few steps forward and looked closely.

"Holy shit !" I exclaimed and stepped back. There were people ! Deadly people. They were even more see-through than me. If you look at me, you could still mistook me for a guy who had not eaten since days. But looking at these guys and gals, it's certain they are ghosts !

"You can talk to them. They won't bite" Ambriel winked and I nodded. I had so many unanswered questions, but I waited. First, I would talk to these.... things.

"Um hello ?" I questioned unsurely. Chuckling nervously at the end.

Their was a little girl in front of me Her hair were silver-white and eyes pure black . I thought of her has the most approachable one. She turned to me and a shiver ran through my nerves.

"Hey" She replied quietly as if she had not spoken for a long time.

"What's your name ? I am Gaston" I smiled politely at her and held out my hand. Well, this was going good. I think so, atleast.

"I am Nia" She once again said in a low whisper and shook my hand.

"It's been a long time since someone actually talked to me" Nia said slowly, each word coming out of her mouth as if she wasn't sure if they would be apt or not. I smiled sadly at her.

"And why is that Nia ? You look like an amazing lass" I grinned at her and she gave me a ghost smile.

"Because, most of the ghosts here are older people. No one is of my age. And they all are just wandering here and there. Irritating people, no one really talks to anyone. I have been like this for 11 years now" She sigh'ed and pointed towards the older, much more creepy men wandering here and there.

Typical ghosts.

Their were only two to three women, them also in their fifties or sixties. Although, they were staring at us with interest. I shuddered.

"Well, you are not alone now. See, I am here. Talking to you, and I think you will be an amazing friend. How old are you ?" I asked curiously.

"Well, I am stuck at the age of nine. But my actual age is 20 now" She said.  It was weird, seeing a small girl saying she was actually twenty. Older than me. That's why I guess she speaks so maturely.

"That's okay Nia. You are even older than me actually ! I am also stuck. I am 18" I said but I noticed her eyes were somewhere else. I gazed at what she was looking at, and I found Ambriel. She was talking to some really really old guy. Who was probably in his nineties when he died. She was smiling, laughing even, and kindly speaking to him. I saw the man smiling. It was a seen of awe. How could she even make the ghosts happy ?

"She's so pretty. Just like an angel" Nia smiled and I admired Ambriel just like she was. But probably in a different way.

"She is an angel. My angel" I kept staring at her. And I knew Nia was looking at me with amazement.

"Wow. That's even better" Just as Nia said this, Ambriel's gaze fell at us and she waved. She made her way towards us, the old guy following her behind.

"Aww, look whom you found to talk" Ambriel gushed and patted Nia's head. Nia looked at her, still with amazement in her eyes.

"And I can see what you found" I smirked as the old guy shook hands with me. Ambriel gave an amused smile

"Gaston, this is Robert. Robert, this is Gaston" She introduced us and we both nodded at each other.

"I am ninety four. And I died happily at my age" Robert croaked out and smiled.

"Ambriel and Robert, this is Nia." I introduced Nia and she shy'ed away. She took a step back and was behind me now. She tilted her head and peered at Ambriel and Robert.

"She is so cute !" Ambriel gushed again with joy and I looked at her curiously. What's up with her and kids ?

"Hi. I am Nia and I am nine. Um, I died in a car crash" Nia said sorrowfully. My eyes widened. Well, that's awful.

"Oh my. I am so sorry Nia" Ambriel held so much sadness in her eyes as if someone, very close to her died in the car crash.

"That's alright. Besides that, I hate pity" Nia admitted with a disgusted expression. I knew the feeling.

"If you don't mind me asking, what happened ?" I don't know from where, but without thinking I popped out that question. Ambriel stared at me with a "what the fuck did you just do ?" look. I just shrugged and gazed at the little beauty in front of me. Nia's expression was blank. As white as a sheet of paper. It was as if she went into a flashback of some sort. After some moments, she recovered and shrugged.

"I don't remember much. I know it was my mom's birthday. So me and my dad went out. We wanted to buy a cake and a gift for her. While in the car, I was distracting dad so much. He lost control, accident happened. He died and had peace where as I am still in the grave" Nia disappointedly said. If she wasn't a ghost, I am sure she would have been tearing up by now as I look at her present face.

"It's not your fault Nia." Robert croaked out again . Nia smiled sadly at him

"I know. But I just can't forgive myself. I think that's why I am stuck. No matter how much I try to remind myself that it's not my fault, somehwere in my heart, I know it is. I want to forgive myself so badly."

"You will Nia. You will, one day. I promise you. Sadly, right now we have to go and be on our way, it was lovely meeting you" I smiled at her and gave a her a small hug which she returned. Being a ghost wasn't that bad. I mean, we could do almost everything. We can touch others of our type, we can see, we can smell, we can just not breathe and we cannot do anything with the humans.

"Visit again please !" Robert and Nia said together, and as soon as they said it. We vanished again. In a matter of seconds. Soon, we were in a familiar place. Our place. What I like to call the mystical forest.

I sigh'ed and sat besides a tree. Ambriel sat besides me.

"So, now what ?" I asked. "Nia is amazing. We can have a great friendship" I grinned. She narrowed her eyes at me.

"Nia is amazing but now, enough of friendships and fun. We have to get serious now. Come on, let's at least have some information. First a fall I want you to tell me EVERYTHING. About your previous life and the night you died. So maybe we can get some clues and suspects" Ambriel explained everything seriously. Is she bipolar or somthing ?

"You would make a great cop or detective" I smirked while replying to what she had said earlier and she glared at me. Did she have personality disorder  ? At some moments, she is so sweet, angelic. And then other times she becomes this angry glaring devil. Jeez, it's difficult to understand women even in this state.

"Not the time for jokes" she muttered through her gritted teeth.

"I always liked them feisty" I smirked again. The more angrier she got, the more fun it was.

"Do you want me to help you or not ?" She put a hand on her waist and tapped her foot impatiently.

"Alright, alright. Fine. Geez, so from where should I start" I asked.

"From the beginning" she replied with an obvious tone.

"Okay. Well, my mum and dad had sex, and then my mum became -"

"Hey ! I did not meant from the beginning beginning" she fumed and I laughed. Ambriel looked at me with annoyance clear in her features. Then she sighed.

"I am doing this for you. Come on, we have plenty of times for jokes. Now be Serious. How was your high school life ? Who were your friends and enemies ? Tell me about your family and their business, business partners, everything" She told me. There was no anger in her tone. Just a look in her eyes saying "I am about to give up on this idiot" . So I finally decided to not pest her anymore.

"Alright. It all started when ...." I trailed off. She leaned in closer with curiousity and I took a look at her. Damn, she really is beautiful. Her eyes stared at me, urging me to go on. I sigh'ed and started telling her the story of my life.
