10. A Cynical View

Cynicism,

Oops,

I’m guilty, I fear.

Skepticism,

too,

or so I hear.

Sarcasm,

certainly,

coating every word.

Pessimism,

why yes,

don’t be absurd.

I know these qualities

are anything but ideal.

I know it’s sad,

but that’s how I feel.

It’s society’s fault,

the blatant idiocy around.

Taking my hope,

driving it to the ground.

Perhaps I’m being dark,

yes, well maybe,

but on the TV is a show,

About a teen and her baby.

Is this what we’ve come to?

Is this where we’ve landed?

Would our ancestors be proud?

Or catch us red-handed?

Ignore me if you will,

I won’t mind at all.

I’d like to believe

that the world won’t fall.

But ha, I’ll laugh

as you find me bereft.

But I’m far too cynical

to have any hope left.
