22. That's Against the Rules!
I shift the weight of the bulky lasertag vest from shoulder to shoulder as one of the workers drones on and on about the safety rules. "And don't forget, no running and no chewing gum!" the worker finishes brightly before opening the door, allowing the two teams to enter the course. Louis and Harry are on the red team, and I'm on the blue team. I'm planning on kicking some major red team butt today, and showing them who's really the best at lasertag. The bullhorn sounds, and everyone takes off. I stay low as I run, knowing Harry and Louis are probably looking for me. I hear Harry's familiar voice say, "Was that her?" and I freeze. I hear footsteps coming toward me, and I spring into action. I jump up from where I'm crouched and fire at Harry, who's in front of Louis. He tries to fire back, but his gun is out of lasers, and he has to go refill it at the red team station. "Guess it's you and me," Louis says, smirking. We begin to fire at each other, blindly pulling the trigger and hoping it hits the other person. Soon enough, Louis has to go refill his gun as well, and I do a victory cheer when he turns and heads the other way. He quickly sticks up his middle finger at me and I laugh. I should probably go refill mine too, before the first round is over. I don't see them for the rest of the round, and I know they must be planning a sneak attack or something. The second round starts with little fanfare, and I make my way to the red team's side, hoping to surprise Louis and Harry. I'm about to jump around the corner when someone tackles me from behind. "I win!" I hear Louis crow happily. One of the workers runs up to us furiously. "You three!" she says, pointing a finger at us. "Out! Now! That's against the rules!" Louis and I get off the floor and follow Harry out of the course. There's no reason to stick around, so we just walk out and get back in Louis' car. We're not in the car for two seconds when Louis bursts out laughing. Harry and I begin to laugh too, until tears are streaming down our cheeks and our stomachs hurt. "Out! Now!" I mimic. Louis wipes his eyes. "That's against the rules!" he says in a high pitched voice and we collapse into giggles again. "Where to now?" Harry asks when we've all calmed down and have stopped laughing. "I don't know," I say when Louis looks at me questioningly. "But do you think we're banned from there now?" Louis shakes his head in fake disappointment. "That's like the tenth place I've been kicked out of in the past few years." I raise my eyebrows. "Where else?" I ask. "I got kicked out of the one diner near camp for trying out that magic trick where you pull away the tablecloth but everything else stays on the table. Let's just say nothing stayed on the table." Harry looks back at me. "It was bad," he tells me. "And now I can't go there either." The image of Louis pulling everything off a table while the restaurant patrons look on, horrified, makes me laugh again. "What even made you think you could do that?" I say. Louis shrugs. "I don't know. Looking back on it, it was kind of dumb." Harry smiles. "And embarrassing." Louis pulls out of the parking lot and says, "Let's go watch horror movies at my house. My parents are on vacation in some boring place in Canada." My phone buzzes and I check it. I see Zayn's number on the screen, and I sigh. "You good?" Harry asks worriedly. "Yeah," I say. I ignore the call.
