At what age did you start writing?
It was probably around 5 or 6 I made my first scribble of a story in class. I think I wrote my first “serious” story though around 12, but that “novel” will never see the light of day XD
What inspires you to start writing?
Anything that catches my attention really! A phrase, a walk, a song, someone’s opinion; anything that sparks a story!
How do you beat writer’s block?
Go for a walk, watch a film, compose, read a book; something enjoyable to let my mind wander and recuperate. Sometimes I try and write something I’m in the mood to write, like a poem or head onto further chapters in a story I do feel like writing.
Do you consider writing to be a serious career choice?
Of course! If you feel that you just cannot stop writing, then you need to let the world hear what you have to say! For me, I’ll write until my hands fall off whether I’m doing it for publishing or for fun, as long as writing is what I want to do.
What advice would you give to a first-time writer?
If you want to write and an idea refuses to leave you head, even if others don’t like it or look down on you or if there’s that overly critical voice at the back of your mind saying stop, ignore them and write. The more you write, the more you’ll learn about the craft so you’ll always be improving and having fun!
What’s your advice for the next ambassadors after you?
Read, write and engage as much as you can on this awesome site! Always be friendly and helpful and you’re bound to leave a positive mark.
What’s your motivation to be ambassador?
I wanted to give something back to the amazing impact this site has made on my writing. This was a chance not to be missed! I want to try and encourage more movellians like others on this site have done for me :)
What's the most embarrassing moment of your life so far?
Woah, don’t open that door! XD
What's gotten you into writing?
I’m not sure really. Just ideas came into my head and I wanted to write them down. It probably got more serious when I joined my school’s English club in year 8 or 9 but otherwise I liked writing little bits from my imagination whenever I could. I’ll keep enjoying and learning about writing all my life I hope! :D
What's your favorite genre of books and films?
Fantasy! Science Fiction and Adventure sort of come under that genre too I think but it lets me escape reality to another world and, for me, that’s the best thing a book or film could give.
What's your favorite film?
I can’t pick one so I drew up a list XD : Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Narnia, Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Hunger Games, Divergent, How to Train Your Dragon, Robots, Rise of the Guardians, The Addams Family, Shrek and anything by Tim Burton, Disney and Marvel! I’ve probably forgotten a few but I love watching films!
What got you into reading?
School most likely. I started those reading schemes when starting school and, from the continued encouragement from my mum, found a love for books.
What age did you start reading?
Like I said above, probably around 4 or 5. I’ve always found reading fun :)
Favourite Band, singer?
Again, I can’t pick one! I listen mainly to Florence and the Machine, Linkin Park, Green day, Evanescence and Take That (Thanks to my mum, I’ve listened to them since I was practically a baby!) and ABBA sneak in there too!
Numb by Linkin Park. The Drumming Song and Never Let me Go by Florence and the Machine just miss out on that spot, but Linkin Park’s songs never fail to speak to me.
What music inspires you?
Since I write mainly fantasy, I find myself listening to film scores when writing, like by Hans Zimmer and Klaus Badelt, or Celtic, mystical-sounding music. It really calms me down and lets me block out the world and think in a clear head.
Can you give the new movellians or old movellians some advice?
Read and comment as much detailed critique on as many people’s movellas as possible! As long as you’re positive as well as give them some constructive criticism (if you can find any!) I know people on here will be most grateful for it and will most likely return the favour, so you can improve yourself and help others! Also, smile and be friendly to get yourself noticed for the right reasons around here :)
Do you have some advice for people who want to apply as ambassador?
Go for it! Show off how you contribute to this site and continue to be active and encouraging to others :)
What's your favourite quote?
“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” – Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Advice for bullied, who gives up fighting to be happy?
You are amazing. You are strong enough to overcome every bump in life with each making you even stronger. Hold your head high, find good friends to trust, never give up on the things you love and don’t let anyone force you to hide yourself away.
Best childhood memory?
Being at Disneyland Paris watching the fireworks, with my whole family happy together amongst the magic :)
