28. Introducing Am Southern
Username: Am Southern
At what age did you start writing?
I was 10 years old... In grade 6.
What inspires you to start writing?
As for how I get inspired, there's not really a specific technique. I just live my life and occasionally, an idea pops up inside my head.
How do you beat writer’s block?
I find that having someone to talk to helps a lot!! It's so much easier to write when you have someone to bounce ideas off of.
Do you consider writing to be a serious career choice?
Of course!! Although, I do believe that you should have another, more stable job on the side because the thing with writing is that the outcome is unpredictable... Do you think that J.K. Rowling knew that she was gonna be one of the most famous authors ever??
What advice would you give to a first-time writer?
Just write what you want... Sharing you story is great and getting feedback is even better but don't write only for the audience. You need to focus on writing for you!!
What’s your advice for the next ambassadors after you?
I think that the most important part of being an ambassador is being social. You have to make everyone feel included!!
What’s your motivation to be ambassador?
I think what motivates me the most is knowing that after this year is over, I will have helped out and made a difference!!
What's the most embarrassing moment of your life so far?
When I was 8, I had to buy a penny whistle from the school. So, one night I decided to practice my penny whistle at home... After about 10 minutes I got bored so I started using it as a baton. I caught it the first few times and then I threw it again and I caught it... With my face!! It was really bloody and I had a triangle shaped scar on my face for the longest time. That was almost 8 years ago. The scar has faded a lot but if you look closely you can still see it.
What's gotten you into writing?
My 6th grade teacher gave me an assignment for school. I had to write the first chapter to a story using a prompt that she gave me. I wrote more chapters to the story during the summer.
What's your favorite genre of books and films?
Romance, Horror, Fantasy
What's your favorite film?
'Grease' (I love musicals!!) and 'We're The Millers' (This one was so funny!!)
What got you into reading?
When I was little, I would sleep in my moms room. One night, I saw her reading the second Harry Potter book and I asked if she could read it to me. She said that I had to start with the first book and then she handed it to me and I started reading it...
What age did you start reading?
I think it was between the ages of 4 and 5.
Favorite Band, singer?
I love so many different artists but there's no doubt in my mind that Bruno Mars is the best.
'The Lazy Song' by Bruno Mars
What music inspires you?
Honestly, I know most people say that music without words is more inspirational but I kind of think otherwise... You'd be surprised at the stories you can come up with that are inspired by one line of a song!!
Can you give the new movellians or old movellians some advice?
I'd say, just follow the motto "Read, Write, Share" and of course don't forget to socialize... There are so many great people on movellas and you'd be crazy to not want to get to know them!!
Do you have some advice for people who want to apply as ambassador?
Just apply as if you were talking to a friend... It's a good idea to introduce yourself as a person and not only a writer!! Tell them about your life outside of the books!!
What's your favorite quote?
"We keep moving forward, opening new doors and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." - Walt Disney
Advice for bullied, who gives up fighting to be happy?
I would say, if you have understanding parents, you should definitely go talk to them... I was bullied when I was in elementary school and I don't even know haw I managed to deal with it. I guess my mom helped a little because she would always tell me... "I know it seems bad now but you have to think ten years into the future. Will you still remember these people?? Will anything they said effect you in any way??"
Best childhood memory?
I think my favorite childhood memory would be the first day of kindergarten!! My mom stood me beside the school to take a picture... I was wearing a cute little Minnie Mouse shirt and jeans that probably would've fit a toddler (Although in my defense, I was only 3). My hair was in pigtails and I was driving my mom nuts 'cause I would keep trying to run away!! I couldn't wait to get inside those doors and start making friends!!
