"Let's get you home," Steven said. He lifted Eegan onto his back. Then he rushed over to Summer's hurt body. "Summer? Are you OK?" he asked. "Speak to me!"
Summer opened her eyes. "Steven...I think I can make it. What happened to Emily?"
"She got away," Steven answered.
"Well, at least we got rid of her," Summer said, standing up. "Let's get to the Whitehouse."
"By gosh, Summer, this is a data pad you gave me!" Steven said. "Good work! And it also has the girls' symbol."
They almost got lost in the dark tunnels, but eventually they made it to Zira's office.
"Greetings, most honorable president," Steven said as he and Summer entered the office. "Your son has arrived, alive and well."
Zira took Eegan into her arms. Eegan squealed when he saw his mother.
"Perhaps now you could help us win this war," said Summer. "Emily Watson wants to murder our kind and take over the school. We can't let it happen!"
"Emily Watson promised to help find Eegan!" Zira almost shouted. "So how can you be the ones? It doesn't add up."
"She has other plans," said Steven. "Summer found this." He held out the data pad. "This, on the back, is Emily's symbol."
Steven activated it to reveal its secrets. Steven's mind reeled. They'd been set up all along! Emily tried to make her own allegiance with Zira. To make Zira think the boys were on the wrong side, she captured Eegan and put him in the death trap Steven, Summer, and Helen all escaped from! Then she would blame Steven!
Zira growled as she listened to the message. "I'd be honored to help you," she said, composing herself. "But all our money and army are going to support a war in Iraq. I--I really am...sorry."
"I understand," said Steven. He hid his disappointment. The war wasn't over after all.
"But at least you have my help," said Summer. "What could go wrong?"
