After a half hour of watching Amber and the other kids play, another mom let her daughter onto the playground and sat next to me.
“Hi,” she said. “I’m Shaza. What’s your name?”
“I’m Valerie, and this is my friend Niall,” I said.
Shaza’s jaw dropped. “I knew I’d seen you somewhere! One Direction, right?” she asked Niall.
“Yes, are you a fan of ours?” Niall asked.
“I LOVE One Direction! My daughter loves you, too. Her name’s Aviva.”
“Does she have black hair and a pink outfit on?” I asked, looking at the little girl playing with Amber now.
“Yes!” Shaza said.
“Well, it looks like she’s playing with my Amber.” I pointed Amber out.
Shaza looked in the direction I was pointing. “Yeah, and it looks like they’re having fun together. We should arrange a playdate! How about tomorrow?”
“Or I could take Aviva home with me. I’ll give you the address so you can pick her up. Let’s say…five-ish?”
I gave Shaza the address of the mansion.
Louis and I got back at about the same time Valerie and Niall did. I noticed Amber’s left cheek was a little red, like she’d been slapped.
“What happened, Amber? Did Niall hit you?” I joked as I got out.
“No, a little boy on the playground did it,” Valerie said. “But on the plus side, Amber made a new friend!”
“Oh, what’s her name?”
“Aviva. I met her mom; she’s really nice.”
Just then, Niall came around the car with a little girl about Amber’s age wearing a pretty pink outfit. He and Valerie brought the girls inside.
The doorbell rang at about five. I answered it to reveal a girl who was tall for her age. She was beautiful, with fair skin and long black hair. I flirted with her for a few minutes until I realized she’d come for Aviva. “Hello,” I said flirtatiously. “I’m Zayn.”
“I know, I’m a big fan,” the girl said. “I’m Shaza, and I’m here to pick up my daughter.”
“Oh, of course. Let me get her.” I walked over to the playpen, where Amber and Aviva were playing “roll the ball”, and grabbed Aviva’s attention.
Aviva looked at me with big black eyes. “Dada?” she babbled.
“No, I’m not your daddy. Your mum’s here, love.” I picked her up and carried her to her mother. “She and Amber had a blast, and apparently, she thinks I’m her daddy.”
“Oh, good! And she thinks every man is her daddy,” Shaza said. “Can I have an autograph? I have your album in my car.”
“Sure. I’ll hold Aviva while you get it.”
Shaza went out to her car and came back with her copy of “Up All Night”. I signed it, put my number underneath my name, and gave it and Aviva back. Then, we said goodbye and parted ways.
