Nothing is quite like the feeling you get when you know something is going to happen. Like deja vu or whatever. It’s overwhelming. Your senses are hyperaware of everything. That’s just what The Weavers of Life want. They need your senses to be hyperaware, it is the only way you will be able the Eternal Binding Cord, a cord of light binding two beings together until The Mark is placed. Thankfully, this can only been seen by the two beings in question and not the entire world.
Callaghan has always been on guard when it comes to romantic relationships. So on guard in fact that she has abstained from ever having one. She saw no need to cause hurt when it would never last. So instead she took to the life of Vavarree, purifying her body, mind, sole and blood through Vermillion. Through her life she has had Platinum and Gold attached to her skin. The molten metals are placed on the skin in patterns, much like tattoos for humans. Her first were five birds, four in Gold and one in Platinum, her parents and two siblings as well as herself. Each new line further purifying her. She has had so many, more than any other shifter; she is regarded as the purest. Making her a target for vampires, pure blood is the sweetest. So to save herself from harm, and others –she never tried to peruse anything romantic and made sure she was never alone with a vampire…especially one who didn’t already have a Vavarree or Mate.
At least until tonight, she kept this rule. Tonight she has no choice but to meet with a vampire. Tonight she must meet with a Master Vampire, the most powerful Master. A Master who not only is without a Mate, but also without a Vavarree –tonight would prove to be interesting. Even putting aside the fact that after the meeting with all the leaders Callaghan saw her Eternal Binding Cord, which she has yet to find the other end.
“Life would be much, much easier if I lived in the natural world rather than the supernatural.”
“But if that were the case, then you would not be you Sentinel.”
“Wise words Xavier, did your mother help you?” Callaghan joked. “When did the Master say he would be meeting us?”
“You, he said he would meet with you only. I’ll be with Bailey working on a plan of action. We’re going to need something ironclad to ensure we can all work together without fighting.”
“A girl can hope.” Callaghan sighed. “When he arrives, have him shown to my office. I’ll meet with him there.”
“As you wish, Sentinel.” With a final nod, Xavier turned and left the room.
Callaghan forever put her job as Sentinel above everything else. Her duty to serve and protect always came before her duty to herself. So why was it so hard for her to wait in her office for the Master. The Master who had promised to help in anyway possible for the cause, she knew it was questionable when a Master of Vampires agreed to help a Shifter without asking for anything in return. Even more questionable was the Master who offered, the only unmated vampire Master, the Master of the largest House. Jace Volkov scared the hell out of Callaghan. Not because he was a vampire or even because he was a Master. Rather, he scared her because he had neither a Mate nor a Vavarree.
And, not even an hour before, she saw her Eternal Binding Cord.
