“Well it isn’t broken, a hair-line fracture, actually.” The lady tells us, I guess she’s a nurse, she’s wearing scrubs, “You’re going to need to where a sling for a month or two, until you’re comfortable with moving it around.”
“That’s it?” Harry asked, the lady nods.
“Hair-line fractures isn’t a brake, the bone hasn’t come out of place or been snapped in anyway, think of it as a crack in a glass.” I let out a small laugh the lady catching my eye and smiling before turning back to Harry who is giving me the biggest dirty look; Louis wraps an arm around my waist.
“Don’t laugh.” He whispers kissing my temple, the lady grabs a sling from under the counter, taking it out of the plastic before slowly and gently guiding Harry’s arms into the right position and fitting it to the right size; Harry jumps down off the bed and thanks the lady before we left.
“I think you owe me an apology.” I look at Louis before Harry.
“And whys that?” he gapes at me before pointing to his shoulder, “I don’t owe you anything, you deserved that, don’t call me a bitch.” We all get into Louis’ car and head towards my house, Louis walks me to my door like always, a quick kiss goodbye was shared and I enter my house, I greeted my mum and dad before retreating to my room, I stripped and put on pajamas before slipping into bed, I can’t believe I did what I did to Harry, I laugh to myself before turning my lamp off and pulling the covers up higher and soon drifting off to sleep.
Three weeks later
My family and I had packed the car with all my things, we were taking them to the postage place that were flying my things out to my apartment in London, I’ve let the girls know when im leaving, in exactly a months, this Sunday is my last shift at the restaurant so I have all my weekends to spend with my family and friends. Louis showed up shortly after and finished packing the left over things into my car, Louis and I got in after a while and my parents and brother the family car as we made our way to the postage place, once we arrived we were given a hand by a worker to get everything out of the car and tagged with my new address where it’s getting delivered too and all my contact details. Once we had finished we all headed towards my family’s house, my brother jumping in my car with Louis and I and my parents going in the other, I’ve decided to just sell my car over here, the people interested said eight thousand and that was two thousand more then what I was originally going to sell it for, we made a deal for three weeks from now so on my last week in Australia im without a car.
We greet my family and walk through the house and out the back where a bit more of my family were, we greeted them, Louis meeting them for the first time, in a way I know soon Louis and I are going to have to call it quits but I don’t want to till we really have too. “Ready to go out into the real world?” my pop asks as he sip from his XXXX gold (Four X Gold) I nod as I sip on my can of coke.
“A bit nervous but ready.” we get talking about the school and soon eat lunch, the younger ones getting bored so I offer to take them down to the creek, which they happily agree too, Louis and I hold hands as we walk down the street, Sofia, Estelle and Josh all running ahead, we soon got to the bush land and started walking down the trail, Josh a few meters ahead of everyone waving a stick around trying to rid the trail of spider webs, we get to a fork in the path and I know exactly the right one to go down to get to the creek faster but I let the younger ones chose, a short while later we arrive at the creek, the younger ones going off chasing lizards under the rocks while Louis and I sit by the streaming water and watch.
“When I was young, before soap and my cousins were even born or could walk, my uncles always brag me down here, he would bring a bag full of food and we would jump the creek, a bit further down where its thinner and sit on the other side in the shade and eat lunch while watching the birds drink front the water of the lizards scurry from rock to rock.” I smile at the memory, “I miss being there age and having everything be fun and new.”
“You can’t always make it new but im sure you can make anything fun really.” I look up at him and smile, I lean my head on his shoulder, one of his arms wrapping around me as we sit and listen to the others talk and run around.
Three weeks, three days later
I had wrapped Claudia’s birthday present knowing I won’t be here to give it to her, I know her and Tegan were going shopping today, apparently to get me a going away present but I wouldn’t mind either way, I start my short walk to Claudia’s house knowing full well she isn’t there, I would have driven but I sold my car last week, when I reached Claudia’s house a few minutes later I knocked on the door being greeted by her little sister who let me in, I say hi to her brother and mum, her dad must be at work already, we talk for a while before she asks me about the box.
“Because im not going to be here for Claudia’s birthday, I was wondering if you could give this to her. On her birthday of cause.” I say placing the box on the coffee table.
“What is it?” she asks picking it up and shaking it lightly.
“I guess you will see in November.” she laughs causing me to do the same.
“I will give it to her only if you admit you will miss me more.” I smiles.
“I’ll always miss you more, but just so we are clear I will probably tell both the girls that as well.” She laughs and we sit around talking for a bit before I leave, heading back up the road to my house, I go in and to my room finishing packing a few things into a suit case.
Four days later
Everyone joined me at the airport, my parent got the day off work, well my mum half the day, Tegan and Claudia came with my parents, so did my brothers, I came with Louis because there was no space in my family’s car, we had already ended our relationship, a few nights ago, I had already put my bag though cheek in and had less than an hour till I had to head to security then to the gate, Tegan handed me a box and Claudia a card, I thank them and hug them both before opening the card.
While you’re away we’ll always be here at home, no matter what you say it’s your home as well.
We are going to miss you unconditionally, never forget that and never forget us because you will always be on our minds.
Claudia & Tegan
I tear up from reading the small gesture and hug them tightly, the tears subside and I am thank full they didn’t fall, I tare open the wrapping paper on the small box and open it, an engraved anklet.
We Will Miss You.
On one side and the other.
I smile at the anklet and take it out before bending and clipping it into place. “Perfect.” I say observing the silver mettle around my ankle.
“Okay, our turn.” My mum says and passes me a box slightly bigger than the one Tegan and Claudia had given me, I take it and thank them before opening it.
“Car keys?” I look up at them slightly knowingly but not sure.
“It will be in the car park of your building when you arrive.” My jaw drop and my eyes widen, I embrace my family in a hug.
“Thank you, thank you, thank you.” I observe the key again.
“And me.” Louis says and hands me a flat box, I thank him and open it, my lips parting lightly before I wrap my arms around him.
“Thank you so much, I love it.” I pull back and look down at the small elephant pendant before pulling it out of the box and handing it to Louis, I spin around and he gets the hint placing it around my neck and clipping it on, my hand retches up to touch the cold sliver mettle.
“Well I think you better start heading off, wouldn’t want you to miss the plane.” My dad says and I nod, I hug everyone a last time and pick up my carry-on bag for the long flight to London, I say bye and head towards security, it isn’t long till I am though sacristy, my bag check and im right to go, I sit and wait until my flight is called and head on finding my set and going to the window one, I leave my beg with me knowing I will want the things out of it during the twenty three house trip, I look out the window at the people below us in fluro orange vests, A guy not much older than me joins the row but taking the aisle seat and leaving the middle one empty.
“I’m Stephen.” He tells me out stretching his hand, I take it.
“Ellen.” I smile shaking his hand.
“Going on holidays?”
“Moving.” I state and he nods.
“Seeing a friend.” He tells me.
“That must be fun.” I smile, he nods, we start a convocation and it barely stops while to air hostess teaches about the vests under the seat in front of us, about the oxygen masks in the compartment above our heads and the instruction manuals and information pamphlets about the plane which are stored under the seat in front of us, soon she is telling us to fasten out seat belts and soon the plane is moving down the run way, I learnt that Stephen is a medical student in a hospital I haven’t heard of and that the ‘friend’ he is seeing is a lover, I also found out he is gay.
