"That looks cool doesn’t it— Oh come on Zach, will you hurry up!" I shouted at him. He was lagging slowly behind me, with bags and bags of clothes in this hands.I was grinning like a maniac and his expression reminded me of a killer about to go on a killing spree. I just smirked at him and walked into the shop.
The shop was decorated with graffiti on the walls, and bright coloured racks of clothes filled up every empty space. I went over to the one which had an attractive looking turquoise crop top with the quote "Dream On" in white puffy letters on it. It looked nice so I pulled it from the rack and hung it over my arm. I continued walking down the aisles and saw a galaxy print crop top. I put that on my arm too, and after that I took some shorts down from one of the higher racks and went over to the counter.
We got out of the shop and I sent Zach a smile that said 'please help me take this bag as well thanks'. He rolled his eyes at me but took my bag anyways. He was being a right gentleman if I were to be honest. "Your taste is terrible, you know that?" He said. Right, I’m forgetting about the gentleman part.
"As if you could choose better clothes than me. And as if you have better taste than moi.” I said and rolled my eyes, arching an eyebrow at the same time.
"Of course I can," he said and walked in front of me with a cocky grin on his face. “Follow me young pupil.” I did as he said and we got out of the mall and headed to the parking lot. I gave him a confused look but he just winked at me cheekily.
After around thirty or so minutes of driving around, we stopped in front of another mall smack bang in the middle of the city. The roads were crowded and busy with traffic. We entered a parking lot and the valet took his keys. The two of us walked through the glass doors of the building.
The inside was so different from the outside—it was much quieter and the people were dressed in high-class clothing. I suddenly felt under-dressed with all the other people in their finery. Zach looked fine, he fit in just fine with his Ralph Lauren t-shirt and Italian shoes and stunning good looks.
"Uh... Zach, what on Earth are we doing here?" I asked, playing with the edge of my shirt.
“To get some clothes, duh.” he said and shrugged.
"Dude, I can't even afford to window shop here. From Louis Vuitton's to Burberry to Prada, are you frickin’ kidding me?” I whisper-screamed.
"Whatever." he said and pulled me into one of the shops. I didn't have a choice but to follow him.
We were greeted by salesmen and saleswomen who had bright smiles on their faces, with suits and formal clothing on. I just followed Zach and we went over to some shelves with really expensive looking clothes. I looked at him with a wide-eyed stare but he just ignored me.
He rifled through them and, without even checking their prices he started handing the clothes to me. Well, it was more like throwing. We continued down to the other racks and he did the same thing. He just randomly chose the outfits and threw them in my direction. I caught them with much difficulty as I already had a large pile of clothing in my arms.
I also began noticing the stares from the people in the shop. After my arms were utterly full of clothes, around twenty or more pieces of them, he led me over to the fitting room and pushed me into one of the stalls.
"Try them on." he said and before I could reject, he closed the wooden doors in my face. I looked at the clothes, and checked their prices, all of them were above two hundred dollar mark. What on earth was he thinking? I opened the door and saw him lounging on one of the velvet couches.
"I am not wearing these." I said and gave him a stern look, thrusting the clothes at him.
" You don't really have to buy them, you can just try them on, it's not like you have to pay,” he sighed. I thought about it and well he did have a point. Although I couldn’t afford them, I could make myself feel better by trying them on...
I closed the doors and entered the room again. I began to strip and took the dress from the very top of the pile. After I was done and I looked decent, I walked out and looked for Zach's reaction. The looks...
"That's disgusting. Looks old on you." he said. I rolled my eyes and re-entered the changing room. I took the next one and tried it on.
After almost an hour of repeating the process, I was really exhausted. Out of the few clothes that I picked out, only fifteen of them looked good on me. I smiled to the saleswoman and gave her back the clothes. “Do you mind putting these back? Thank you.”
She looked at me, shocked and full of anger. I turned to look at Zach and frowned when I saw him flirting with one of the salesgirls. but at my stare he stopped and walked towards me. "We'll just take these please,” he smiled and handed her his credit card. "Please wrap it up would you.”
She smiled and nodded excitedly, her eyes gleaming at the sight of the shiny plastic. Before I could stop her, she was already behind the till. "Dude, what is this about?" I raised an eyebrow and looked at Zach.
"Your clothes?” He replied, obviously not getting my real question.
"I mean, why are you paying, you know I can't afford them. I don’t have the money to pay you back dude." I furrowed my eyebrows.
"You don't have to. Gosh Ash, this is nothing to me. How much will it cost? A few hundreds? A thousands? That’s considered cheap, girl..." he rolled his eyes. I was going to give him a lecture about how many kids were starving out there and how the money to pay for my clothes could be donated to them instead, but he just walked over to the till and took the bags.
I sighed in frustration. The clothes were really expensive... I just didn’t want to owe him anything. I walked towards him and looked at the girls behind the counter that were battering their eyelashes trying to look seductive but they just looked like they had something stuck in their eyes. Zach winked at them in return.
They saw me standing beside him and started shooting me death glares. If looks could kill, I’d have died twenty times over, they looked jealous too. What was wrong with these girls? Everyone seemed to fall for Zach's looks. Truthfully I wasn’t really surprised…
We walked out of the shop and he was going to enter another one but I stopped him by grabbing his arm. "It's enough for the day Zach, I don't want to get anything else. Plus, I can't pay you back—" I was cut off by him pressing a finger against my lips.
"You don't have to, how many times have I told you. It's a gift." he smiled. There was the real smile again. Another moment to savour.
"I don't want to owe you anything." I said and looked to my feet. I knew I wouldn't be able to pay him back.
"You won't, why don't you do something for me instead?" he asked.
"Go out to dinner with me. Wear something that we bought and lets have a nice meal together,” he said. I looked at him, surprised, but agreed anyways. What was going on with him? He's being... nice… to me… a girl that isn't really smoking hot or really smart or super sporty or even especially nice...
