"Champ, you almost ready to go?"
"Yeah I'm coming!" he sounded so happy for his first day of school. I knew he was going to have a good time and since I told him that he could make friends, that's exactly what he's going to do.
"Rose do you have everything?" I turned around and saw my dad standing there with his briefcase and trying to fox his tie. I went back to making Willie's lunch.
"Yes dad I have everything. And don't worry I'm taking care of Willie too. You can go now."
"Okay. Have a good day." he started walking out the door.
"Hey!" I turned to see him almost close the door, knife with butter in my hand. "Least you could do is say goodbye to your son." I half-shouted at him, and I'll probably get a look for that. But he just kept fixing his tie.
"Bye Willie, have a good day."
"Bye daddy." he came running out of his room and ran all the way to dad to give him what was possibly the biggest hug I've ever seen. "Have fun daddy." dad just laughed and hugged his son back, then walked out the door. "Rosie what's for lunch?"
"You get a ham sandwich with your favourite cheese, an apple, milk and a cookie. Is that okay?" I looked down at him and saw the biggest smiliest face ever.
"Okay? That's awesome!"
I laughed. "Okay champ, now go get your shoes on or you'll be late."
I packed the rest of his lunch in his bag, put on my shoes, let the dog in the backyard and locked the front door.
I had driven the car before but I didn't know these streets yet. I just figured that I could follow everyone else and find my way around.
I parked the car in front of Willie's school and let him get out. He turned around and waved at me and I waved back, now I just hoped that I wasn't going to be late for my first day.
Finding a parking spot in this parking lot was trying to find a needle in a hay stack, and believe me, I've had to do that before. There was this guy that was talking to people in different cars, so I decided to pull up to him.
"Hi." Well he's a little happy.
"What can I do for you?"
"A parking spot. That would be great."
"Well sure, if I can just hop in a show you where it is." he started towards my car.
"How about you just show me from there." and he backed away.
"Sure thing, princess."
"I am not a princess." god this guys annoying.
"Okay, it's just over there." he pointed me to the other side of the lot to where five spaces where.
"Thanks." and I drove away before he could say anything else.
I put my car in park and hopped out. BEEP BEEP.
"Hey doll, that's a nice car you got there." I looked to my left and saw a tall guy with black hair and a couple other guys behind him that I didn't really pay attention too.
"Don't call me doll." he kept coming closer.
"Oh why not doll?"
"Because I asked you to." I started backing away slowly, I didn't like the look of this guy, or any other guy standing in a two feet radius of him.
"Oh well, little missy over here has got a mouth on her," he was finally about two inches away from me. He ran his eyes up and down me a couple times before stopping at my chest"What else can that mouth of yours do?"
Next thing I knew, he was two feet away from me and getting further and further, with his hand on his cheek and a big red mark from his mouth to his ear.
I knew that was going to happen, and I just did what my mom told me to do years ago.
"Hey missy! You get back here." I just kept on walking, and I never heard that guy again. Then this girl stopped me.
"Hey." I stopped and looked at her.
"I'm Hellen." she extended her hand
"Rose." I shook it politely.
"Nice grip. Where y'all from?"
"Does it matter?" I put my hand back in my front pocket.
"Not really. Just thought I would try. You new here right?" I nodded. "I saw you come in yesterday with that nice truck of yours. Listen if you're interested in weed to keep the edge off of school and what not-"
I stepped back. "Look Hellen, I'm sure you mean well but I don't want anything to do with that. Now I have to go and see the principle, since I'm new and everything, and get my schedule and stuff." I started walking away to the front doors when I heard her again.
"Alright, talk to you later."
"No you won't." I didn't stop for anyone until I got to the office.
"You must be Rose. Please take a seat and Mr. Soares will be right with you."
"Thanks." the secretary was a fat-ish woman. Not fat enough that you would think that she eats all day but fat enough to think that she sits at a desk all day. The office was small and nice, with plants in almost every corner and sharpened pencils on every desk. It smelt of pine sap and coffee, lots of coffee, which was probably explain by the coffee machine on the left hand sir of the room about three feet from the ladies desk. The oak door at the end of the very small hall opened and a man stepped out. Nice hair, no facial hair, blue tie and black suit. His smile was nice and inviting.
"Miss Connors. Please come in." he gestured for me to go into the oak doored room. I passed by him and he smelt of pine too, but a little overpowering for my taste.
"Did you know that you're school is a drug-dealing ground?" I turned to him as I entered before I sat down.
"Yes, I am quite aware." Of course he was. He was smoking a cigarette himself.
