Country Strong

Rose has recently moved to small town Rockport, Texas with her dad and little brother. She's moved before, but nothing like this. Almost everyone is already in a relationship at her new high school and she isn't making friends easily. Until she meets this guy and suddenly, she's becoming the new kick on the block.

4. Ice cream parlour

"Hello there, what can I get you today?"

Willie looked at the menu on last time before telling the girl his order . "Can I have chocolate ice cream in a cone please."

"Sure thing." she left us and went to go make his ice cream. I wasn't going to get anything and I was still waiting to see if that guy was going to show up or not.  I did a 360 check once more until she showed up at the window with his ice cream.

"Here you go and can I get you anything?" she looked at me still smiling.

"No thanks."

"Alright then that will be three dollars and twenty-five cents." opening the cash register and getting out my change for the five I handed her.

"How much do you get paid to work here?" I asked.

"It's good. Flexible hours because we're mostly students working here. Good pay. I like it, plus you'll get a discount on the ice cream. Oh, and if you need someone to look after your brother, the house just over there," she pointed to the corner house. "Looks after kids for five bucks and hour and they're mostly from the schools."

I thanked her and said that I would be back tomorrow with a resume and everything. I then sat down with Willie as he was eating his ice cream.

"Why didn't you get anything?" he kept licking his ice cream.

"I'm not hungry."

"Do you want some of mine?" he lifted his ice cream to my face and looked at me. All I could do was laugh.

"No thanks champ." he shrugged and continued licking his cone. I kept looking around for the guy but I couldn't see him. I knew that this was going to happen. He just ditched me. But why would he do that, and how? I have his number, maybe it's a fake number. I looked down at my phone and when I looked up two minutes later he was there. Standing right in front of my holding out a small vanilla cone in front of my face. The little girl beside him was so cute. She had little piggy tails in and this cute white dress with yellow flowers, her ice cream was strawberry and she was looking straight at Willie. I looked back at the guy standing there and took the ice cream.

"How are you?" he sat down beside me and started eating his.

"I'm good, you?" this was really good ice cream.

"Good, had to get out of my house though. So what are you doing for the rest of the day?"

I looked at him with a questioning look. "Homework and I have to make supper." I looked forward and continued eating my ice cream, thinking of my dad and thinking of what he almost did last night.

"What's for supper?" he didn't look at me, just straight ahead. But I looked at him, and I looked at him hard until he looked at me. He just smiled and all I could do was laugh.

"Why? You planning on bringing a salad? I'm making spaghetti and garlic bread, I don't know if my dad will have anything but Willie and I will." I looked down at my watch and realized the time. "Oh shit! I have to go," I looked at Willie and grabbed his hand. "Come on champ, we have to go." he had finished his ice cream a while ago, he turned to look at the girl and waved.

I closed the car door and the guy showed up.

"Thank you so much for the ice cream, I had a good time."

"Me too." he smiled.

"I have to ask though. You haven't called me a name yet." I could tell that he was confused. "You know, like doll, missy, chick, anything like that. Who are you?" he chuckled and looked back at the girl before looking at me.

"My name's Jack," he pointed to the bench. "And that's Liz."

I nodded. "My name's Rose." I turned the key in the ignition, I backed up the car and drove to the farm that the add came from.
