72. Good Morning
The next day, Almighty Z woke up with her stomach grumbling. She thought about staying in bed and making ZIP bring her food, but ultimately decided against it and slipped out from under her dark covers, mostly because shewas more likely to run into Jake in the kitchen. So, she left her room and walked down the hallway, sliding her hands into the pockets of her grey pajama pants.
When she got to the kitchen, she poured herself a glass of apple juice while a drone flipped pancakes. She didn't spill a drop, which was impressive, considering that Jake surprised her from behind, snaking his arms around her middle resting his chin on the warm skin of her shoulder when her glass was about seventy five percent full. She smiled. She'd obviously made the right decision in coming down to breakfast.
"Hi," she said, turning her head when she stopped pouring a second later.
"Hi," Jake said after pecking her lips. "How are you?"
"Good," Z said, turning around in his arms and smiling up at him. "How are you?"
"Pretty good now," he said, smiling back. "I'll probably be a lot worse later."
"Oh?" Z asked. "Why's that?"
"I have to leave to go out for new technology," he said. "And...you can't come."
Almighty Z crossed her arms and gave him a fake annoyed look. "You realize what happened the last time a guy told me that, don't you?"
He pretended to wince. "Yeah, well, they need you in drone tech development all day today, remember?"
She gave an exaggerated sigh. "Yeah, yeah."
They grinned at each other.
"I promise not to hook up with any of your enemies while I'm gone," Jake said, playing with the ends of her hair at her waist.
Z kissed him before pulling away abruptly. "You'd better not hook up with any of my allies either," she said sternly.
He laughed. "Don't worry," he said, pulling her back to him.
