Girls were his downfall...
Bryce was far too sweet and caring for a teenage boy of this generation, 'they' took advantage of him. Ironic, really if you think about it.
Everyone goes on and on about 'society' and about how pressured young girls are. But nobody talks about how it pressures the male population. Have you ever thought about it? Have you? Because none of this 'society' stuff existed until it happened to Bryce's family...To my family. The thing is, looking back, I didn't seem to notice the changes that Bryce was going through and I can't help but think that if I had taken a moment to look at him properly, none of this would have happened.
Bryce began seeing someone, Bex was her name...
And Katherine hated her.
The relationship between them was slowly ripping the family apart. The bonds in the family were being broken and trust was being severed.
Katherine would fight with Bryce for hours on end before breaking down in tears and locking herself in the bathroom. But he didn't understand... She did it because she cared and could see what 'Bex' was doing to him. Everything at their home was tense. A bomb waiting to explode... And that's exactly what it did, destroying everything in its path.
On the night that Bryce left, Katherine and Bryce had the biggest fight that they had ever had. They fought and fought and fought until their mother had to intervene and break it all up. Katherine was crying and Bryce just stood there stony faced. "I love her" he said before walking out the door.
I love her he said.
Her, over his family.
He came into Katherine's room that night... She knew because she was wide awake, her elder brother's troubles sneaking into her dreams. He leant over her and whispered "I'm sorry, but this is for the best". He kissed her cheek and stood up slowly. She could tell he was crying slightly as one hit her on the nose, "I love you".
Just like that he was gone.
Katherine came downstairs the next morning to a note on the kitchen counter, confirming her fears. Bryce was gone. It echoed around in circles in her mind. "MUM!" She screamed running upstairs to her brothers bedroom and shoving the door open. It was empty. All signs of life had vanished completely. "MUMMM!" She screamed again, her throat contracting and her heart beating furiously in her chest. Tears were streaming down her cheeks and her head was pounding with the knowledge that her brother was gone.
Bryce had left them like a burglar in the night.
All that was left of him was a single note explaining that he had left them for Bex and the meaningless photographs on the walls.
The reality of Katherine's situation was constantly on her mind...
She couldn't concentrate on her school work;
Her social life.
Bryce was finally gone from her life. The throbbing pain in her heart was the only thing on her mind. Her grades began to slip, she was constantly crying and she felt as if she was alone in the world.
She just wanted her brother back as any 13 year old girl would.
A single phone call was all they received from him, the morning after he left. After that they didn't hear anything.
They didn't have contact with Bryce for a year and a half. Imagine that. Not having contact with your brother for a year and a half. Can you? Can you even imagine what that is like? Having somebody hate you so much that they don't talk to you for a YEAR AND A HALF! Do you know what that is like? Because it was hell let me just tell you now.
And when he finally did contact them? It wasn't good news.
He was going to be a father.
