I awakened to the sweet sensation off Legolas’s fingers, gently touching my naked skin.
“I did not mean to wake you.”
He said. I rolled over, so we were face to face.
“After a night like that, I might just forgive you.”
I teased him, and received a gentle kiss on my forehead. Still he looked troubled, and it bothered me.
“What is wrong?”
I asked him, not wanting this moment ruined.
“You are so young.”
He answered, touching my face. I looked at him, and gave an angry stare. He better not call me a child again.
“But not as young as I believed you to be. You proved that to me, when you were willing to die for the fellowship.”
He said, looking sad that he had almost lost me. But I was healing now, and I had a very good reason to stay. I was happy, as long as I was by his side. And as he was not ready to leave, neither was I.
“Still I wanted you to be young. Not to have a care in the world, not to experience more pain than you already have, I just… I just wanted you to be happily unaware and safe. Above all, safe.”
He said, still with the troubled look in his eyes.
“But I know, Legolas. I know of the monsters and horrors in our world. I dream of them every night. The orcs that killed my mother, and the spiders that nearly killed me in Mirkwood. But do you know what my dreams always ends with?”
I asked him. He shook his head. He would not know, I had never mentioned it before.
I answered, lifting my hand to touch him. To make sure this moment was real, and not a dream. But his skin was soft to my touch, convincing me this was real.
“In the end, in all my dreams, you are always there, you save me from the monsters. Always.”
I said, as he reached for me, pulling me into his arms.
“You always save me.”
I whispered, putting my head against his chest.
“At least I am not the only one to protect you anymore. So will your brother, and that is good enough for me. Or I swear I would have tied you to this bed, not allowing you to travel any further with us.”
He said, though I could not tell if it was a joke or he really meant it. Then the words hit me, and I looked at him in chock.
I asked, wondering what had happen, when I had been unconscious. Legolas just nodded, smiling, and kissed my lips.
