I looked at Legolas, who seemed conflicted like never before.
“Does she have a good reason to stay?”
I asked Legolas. He shook his head.
“She has nothing, no one.”
“Come on now, laddie. She has you.”
Gimli said. Legolas looked horrified, that the dwarf saw through him that easily. It only made Gimli giggle, so Legolas turned away and left. I quickly followed him, and stopped him as soon as we were far away from the others. Well, far enough so their curious ears could not hear us. Legolas was enough on edge already.
“Aragorn, I cannot…”
He started, but I gave him a hard stare. I saw through him just as well as Gimli.
“You love her, Legolas. It is clear to me now just how much.”
I told him, not understanding why he was trying to deny it. He let out a breath and nodded, admitting his love for her.
“Why deny it? All this time we have been friends and you never mentioned her once.”
I asked. He shook his head.
“My father does not approve off her. I thought… if I marry her, she cannot escape him. I thought if I denied it, she would move on. And she would be free off my father.”
He told me, so I realized just how strong his love for her was. He was willing to let her go, just so she could be free of his father.
“Fool of an elf.”
I whispered, shaking my head. Legolas smiled.
“So, do I have your blessing?”
Legolas said with a smile. I looked at bit confused at him.
“Well, since her father is not here. I should ask you, should I not?”
Legolas asked, and smiled. I nodded. He had my blessing, and now we were brothers in more than bond. By marrying my sister, he would become my brother by blood.
“I will take good care of her.”
“You better, or I will have your head.”
I said, in both a joke but also meaning every word. And so I send Legolas on his way to Vanya. Something told me he would not wait a year, before marrying her. It would properly happen within the next few hours.
“So? Are we having a party? I assume Legolas is marrying the sweet girl.”
Gimli asked, when I returned to them. I looked a bit confused, before understanding what he was talking about. I laughed, not surprised the dwarf did not know.
“An elvish-marriage is bodily, Gimli.”
I explained, and watched the dwarfs face slowly turned red. Normally there would be an engagement of a year, before the bodily union to achieve marriage. But Legolas would properly not wait that long.
