I swear I saw stars, despite it being day. The blow to my head took away my ability to stand, and so I collapsed. I fell to the ground, landing hard on my back. Everything was spinning. One thing I could make out though. Boromir stepping over me, keeping one leg on each side of my body, defending me. Still blowing the horn, the others would come to our aid soon. If only my head would stop spinning, so that I could stand. I tried to get up, but I soon collapsed again. I closed my eyes, hoping for it to make the spinning and pain go away.
“Do not give in, my child.”
I heard a voice whisper in my ears, ever so gentle.
I asked. I had never heard her voice; she had died before even being able to touch me. Still I recognized her sweet voice, as if I had always heard it.
“And you always have. I never left you child. “
“Always have I been in your heart, and always have I tried to keep you safe.”
She added, so I understood the strange feeling I would get. It was her, trying to keep me safe. She could have been in the halls of Mandos in Valinor, but she had chosen to stay with me. Surely she could not stay like this.
“These are my last words to you, my child. Do not give in; you have a husband, a brother and friends in need of you. Rise child, but I shall not leave you completely. I give you my knowledge and my powers. Na lû e-govaned vîn.”
She said, as I felt my heart grow empty. She had left me, and the feeling that I was so used to disappeared. It made me feel sick, now that it was gone. But my head spun no more, and I could open my eyes to see.
Boromir had attracted the attention of the beings, and lured them away from me. I rushed to my feet, still feeling a bit pain. But there was no more time. I ran to him, but the beings had seen me get back on my feet. They attacked, pushing me back once more. But I felt the change. My movements were even faster, my strength had grown and it would seem my nana’s words had been true. I had received her knowledge, fighting with battle tactics I had not learned from Legolas. And I had received her powers, as I whispered a prayer to make the ground move beneath my feet, giving me the avantage.
For once since the beginning of the journey I felt confident, that I would survive it. I had not shared these thoughts with Legolas and now he would never have to know. But still the journey would claim another life, and since I was too far away the arrows was turn towards Boromir. Far too late I noticed, and by then two arrows had already pierced his body. I fought my way through, but was too late to stop the last arrows.
Again I was pushed back, and the being pushed me down a small cliff. Causing me to fall quite a bit. The impact with the ground knocked the air out of me. I was about to get up, when I heard the tree beside me whisper. It warned me, told me to lie still. I could not save Boromir. I would not be able to. But my friends were coming; I just had to wait until they got here. So I did not move, causing the being to think the fall had killed me.
I did not move, I could hardly breathe. I emptied my mind, and focused on the sound of the wind, the trees and the ground beneath me.
