Lord of the Rings - Hidden Blood

The One Ring has to be destroyed. And I, Vanya Halda Serke, daughter of Arathorn, travel with the fellowship of the ring. Gandalf the Grey, Aragon Isildurs heir, Legolas prince of the Woodland Realm, Gimli, son of my old friend Gloin and four little hobbits; Frodo the ringbearer and Sam, Pippin and Merry. Together we travel towards Mordor, where the ring can be destroyed. But it is not a safe journey, and danger awaits us...

5. May it be - Enya

I sat down by the harp, and stroked it softly. With my fingers I played a few notes. As always it calmed me right down, as I played a few more. With music I could forget for a moment, but only if I kept quiet.

The only thing Thranduil approved of me, was my singing. I dare say he even liked hearing me sing. Singing felt wrong, because of him. I did not want to sing for his pleasure, but for my own. Still… I was incapable of controlling my voice. I had to sing.

“May it be an evening star
Shines down upon you
May it be when darkness falls
Your heart will be true
You walk a lonely road
Oh! How far you are from home

Mornie utulie
Believe and you will find your way
Mornie alantie
A promise lives within you now

May it be the shadow's call

Will fly away
May it be your journey on
To light the day
When the night is overcome
You may rise to find the sun

Mornie utulie
Believe and you will find your way
Mornie alantie

A promise lives within you now
A promise lives within you now.”

“Father is upset with you.”

Legolas had returned, it would seem. At least he had had the decency to wait until my song had ended, his father surely did not.

“I am aware.”

I shortly answered. When was Thranduil not upset, angry or displeased with me? I was used to it.

“You must learn to control yourself around him.”

He continued with the same words I had heard so many times. I shook my head. I already knew what he was going to say. At least I thought I did.

“I am leaving. I do not know when I will return.”

I looked away, unable to hide the feelings in my eyes. He pretended not to see it.

“Sing to me, once more, before I leave.”

He told me, hoping to see me wish him a safe travel. Thranduil would never allow it, and we both knew it.

So instead I sang the song to him once more.
