I had barely left my room, when I meet the man I needed to talk to. Lord Elrond. But it was the hobbit by his side that got my attention.
I asked, shortly confused. He was old, I knew that, but still he had not aged as much as I expected. He looked up, confused, unable to recognize me. I dropped to my knees, so we were the same height.
“Bilbo Baggins. It has been too long.”
I said, with tears of joy running down my cheeks. Still he did not recognize me.
“It is me, Vanya.”
I told him, and immediately saw a light in his eyes. He recognized me now.
He asked, carefully touching my face. He smiled, remembering me as a child.
“I wrote you. Hundreds of letters.”
He said, carefully stroking my chin, as he had done when I was a child.
I answered, felling horrible for not being able to answer them. Bilbo came closer, and held me tight.
He repeated, smiling like he used to. I became aware of Lord Elrond looking at us, so I got back on my feet and bowed to him.
I said, trying to be polite. But it was difficult with tears running down my face.
“I do not believe I know you.”
Lord Elrond said, smiling at Bilbo. He was trying to hide the fact that he was crying too. Lord Elrond pointed towards a room.
“Let us sit down, and then you must tell me how you came to know each other.”
He requested. I nodded in agreement, and followed Bilbo in. I was so happy to see him. It had to be years, since I received the last letter. Honestly I believed he had died of old age.
I had yet another surprise waiting for me in that room, which was properly why Lord Elrond had requested we go in there.
I could not believe my eyes, when I say the man in the room.
Bilbo said with joy in his voice. I remembered the man in grey, and cried even more.
“Can you believe it? It’s little Vanya.”
He said. Gandalf got up from his chair, and I ran to him. Hugging the familiar figure, and he hugged med right back. I did not care, that Lord Elrond was staring at us. I was just so happy to see my friends.
