We followed Dooku to a hangar tower. The gunship landed just long enough for Anakin and me to jump off, then it got blown up. Meanwhile, we headed inside. A small, fast Solar Sailer ship sat in front of the hangar doors, ready for takeoff.
As Anakin alerted our quarry, I drew my lightsaber. "We'll take him together," I whispered. "You, slowly on the left--"
"I'm taking him now!" he interrupted.
Wait, what? "Anakin, no!" I shouted, but it was too late. I could only watch as Dooku electrocuted my apprentice. Force lightning. Something I've only heard of.
As Anakin slumped to the ground, I reached out with the Force. Whew. He doesn't seem seriously hurt. But there's no waiting for him to recover, not with Dooku already advancing on me.
"As you can see, my Jedi powers are far beyond yours," said the Count.
"I don't think so." Alone, I know I've got little chance. Not only was Dooku a master swordsman, but he was rested and fresh, while I was already weary from the battle at the arena. But I have to try. Thus I raised my lightsaber.
Dooku fired a stream of lightning, but I blocked it with ease. With a twirl of my saber, I advanced on Dooku. Dooku smiled and parried the cut at his neck easily. It barely even took any physical exertion for him to parry my second and third strikes.
"Master Kenobi, you disappoint me," he said. "Yoda holds you in such high esteem."
He's trying to distract me. Instead of replying, I fought on. I can feel my exhaustion, how it starts to tell. I started to breathe heavily as I backed away and behind the Solar Sailer's ramp, hoping for an opening.
And then I rushed forward again. Dooku gave ground, surprised at the ferocity of my attack. This gave me a new surge of hope...but even drawing on the Force for strength, I couldn't keep up for long. The Count started to drive me back!
As I gave ground, Dooku quickened the pace. His lightsaber seemed to be everywhere. I remembered what Jocasta Nu told me: In the old style of fencing, he had no match. Now I can see what she meant. Unfortunately.
I missed one parry, and Dooku drove his lightsaber into my shoulder. The pain is incredible. My lightsaber slowed a fraction, and he slashed my thigh as well. My leg gave, and I stumbled back against the wall. The lightsaber fell from my hand an rolled across the floor. Great! Dooku raised his arm for the final blow, and I braced myself.
Count Dooku brought his weapon down--against a brilliant bar of blue light. Anakin stood over me! Dooku told Anakin that was brave but foolish to do.
"I'm a slow learner," Anakin replied, and charged. To my surprise, Anakin's attack caught the Count off-balance and forced him back. Dooku looked just as surprised, but he recovered quickly.
But seriously. I know Anakin's no match for him...unless he does something completely unexpected. Using all my remaining strength, I called my lightsaber to my hand. "Anakin!" I screamed, and flung my lightsaber up to him.
Anakin caught my lightsaber in his free hand and attacked again. But even with two lightsabers, he could not hold back Count Dooku for long. I winced as Dooku knocked Anakin's extra lightsaber out of his hand.
Retreat, I thought. Stall him. But Anakin was not retreating; he was being driven back. The combat had almost come full circle, leading both duelists back to where I lay. Then the Count's blade moved almost too fast to see, cutting Anakin's arm off! He fell beside me, curling up in agony. Dooku looked down at us and moved in for the kill.
But then, for a moment I could swear I saw Yoda--and then Dooku stepped away from us. He fired a stream of lightning ahead...which rocketed back up toward the ceiling. That is definitely not an illusion. Yoda is here.
Anyway, Dooku stopped firing and ignited his lightsaber. Yoda lunged and leaped around Dooku effortlessly, blocking his every move with ease.
And then, a long, familliar crackle from their lightsabers blared through the air. And then Dooku used the Force to topple a pillar! The enormous pole of wood and wire plummeted down toward us. I could feel Anakin draw on the Force to help me attempt to lift it, but it was no use. We didn't have enough strength left. The falling crane slowed but didn't stop--it wold surely crush us when it landed.
And then it stopped in midair. Slowly, Yoda moved it to an empty chunk of the hangar.
Behind him...no! Godammit! Dooku escaped!
And then Padme rushed in with a squad of clones and called Anakin's name. Then they started hugging but right now I'm too exhausted to care...
