Balancing on the tip of his chair, James smirked across at Sirius and flicked his messy hair out of his eyes. Sirius raised his eyebrows questioningly and followed James' gaze towards the fiery-haired girl that had just entered the charms classroom. Sirius snickered and stood up.
"Oi Evans! James over here wants to take you out, you know, just you two!" Sirius shouted, nudging James in the process.
"Sirius!" James muttered darkly, looking down and letting his black hair shadow his now red-cheeked face.
The red-haired girl looked at Sirius with disgust and shouted back: "Not a chance!"
"Ouch, bad luck Prongs," Sirius said sitting down as the charms professor entered the room.
For the rest of the lesson, James ignored Sirius and glanced frequently at the girl he so clearly crushed on, attempting to catch her eye to apologise. However, by the end of the lesson, the girl had still not turned his way, so he sighed and packed away his things. Leaving the classroom disappointed, James turned right ready to go to the Great Hall for lunch. The corridors were packed and there appeared to be a scuffle in the middle of the throng. James stood on his tiptoes to investigate and caught a glimpse of the same hair he had been staring at for the entire charms lesson. He pushed through the crowd of hungry students until he reached her, where he touched her shoulder gently. She turned sharply and withdrew her wand. James raised his hands in a gesture of surrender silently. Lily slowly lowered her wand suspiciously.
"What do you want?"
"I...I wanted...to...to apologise...about Sirius."
Lily rolled her eyes. "I wouldn't expect anything more from him," She scoffed.
"Yeah...well...er..." James hesitated. "You...you wouldn't go to lunch with me, would you?" He blurted, to a bemused Lily. "I mean, that's if you want to, you don't have to though," He added hastily.
"Sure Potter, why not?" Lily sighed in defeat.
James smiled and as Lily continued walking towards the Great Hall, he raised his arms to smooth his hair.
"Don't you dare touch your hair James!" Lily called.
James grinned widely; it was the first time Lily had called him James, instead of Potter.
