Mudblood. Mudblood. Filthy. Disgusting. All of these horrific words swam around in Hermione's brain as she lay on her bed, eyes welled up with tears of anger and sadness. As she thought about Malfoy's insults, the sound of approaching footsteps became louder and louder. Hermione wiped her eyes on her sleeve, sat up and pulled a book from her bedside table. The door burst open and Lavender Brown bounced in giggling, Parvati Patil following suit.
"Hi Hermione," Parvati said.
"Hi Parvati," Hermione said thickly, not looking up from her book.
"Are you ok?" Parvati sensed her tone of voice.
"Yes fine, thank you, I must be coming down with a cold, maybe I will go and see Madam Pomfrey and see if she can fix me up something to help," Hermione said quickly, snapping her book shut and rushing out of the dormitory. As she fled down the stairs she started to cry again and she pushed past the few students who were clearly staying up late in the common room. She ran down the great staircases until she reached the Great Hall. She took to the opposite direction outside and found a small stone bench to sit on.
For over half an hour, she re-read the same chapter of her charms textbook again and again, until she felt someone sit beside her. Ignoring the person she stayed still, her gaze still firmly on the tear-stained pages. The person stayed silent. Finally, Hermione couldn't stand it any longer and looked to her side then jumped up in horror.
"MALFOY?! What are you doing?! Have you come to insult me some more?"
Draco stood up and looked into the beautiful shining eyes he had been thinking about non-stop.
"No...I came...to do this," Draco leaned in and kissed Hermione's lips, holding her face gently, but half expecting her to hit him or jinx him.
Hermione didn't hit or jinx him, but kissed him back, channelling her emotions of the day into the passion of the kiss. When they broke apart, Draco grinned sheepishly, brushed Hermione's cheek once, and strolled away.
Hermione stood awestruck, realising that she'd just fallen for a Slytherin.
