"They are all feeding. There isn't a lot of ways to feed but we will all try them eventually," he whispered into her ear making her shiver.
As they moved through the back room, Max turned Erica to each setting change so she could see each scene that took place and it was times like these that Max was grateful he didn't have a heartbeat anymore. The adrenaline pumping through his body would have ended up choking him. As it was, he could smell the sharp scents of excitement, fear and desire all around him and it didn't help that most of it was coming from Erica. It was rolling off of her in waves that were teasing his exaggerated senses unmercifully and why he hadn't listened to his inner voice that going to her in the first place, was beyond him. Was it because he had been attracted to her immediately? It's only in the ancient stories from his elders did immediate attraction ever occur and it was extremely rare for it to happen to a vampire and human. It almost never happened. To vampires, humans were only a source of food.
When she stopped mid-step, he tensed. "What is it?" he whispered.
She didn't respond but in the alcove before them, Max saw a female vampire standing naked and chained to the faux lamppost. Her thin arms stretched high above her head as a human, male, knelt at her feet to fasten the leather cuffs at her ankles.
The vampires noticed the audience and bared her fangs as she smiled at both Max and Erica and with a tilt of her head, she extended an invitation to join. Erica shuttered against Max and he tightened his grip on her waist. He shook his fangs slowly and bared his fangs which seemed to satisfy the female. She shrugged in disappointment and returned her attention to the human giving her her source of pleasure.
Erica noticed the next alcove where two vampires, male, fed from a human, female. One drank from her neck as he caressed her breasts through the fabric she wore and the other drank from the woman's inner thigh. Max could hear the woman moan lowly as she twitched in pleasure.
Max pulled Erica towards the exit. If he didn't get her out of there soon, they would end up in one of the alcoves.
The cool air seemed to shock Erica and she didn't dare look at Max to see what his face looked like at the moment. After what she had seen inside and how it made her feel, she don't face him just yet.
"I told you," he mumbled.
She slowly looked up at him and saw that he couldn't look at her either, "I'll be alright-"
"It's time I took you home."
She shook her head, "it's only four AM, I wanna go to another club."
"Sunrise is at 5:30 today. The clubs will be closing in a few minutes."
"Of course you would know when the sun rises," Erica giggled.
"Did you bring a car to After Dark?" He asked ignoring her little flirt.
"I walked from a bus stop. I thought if I brought a car, someone might trace my plates or something. You can just drop me off at the nearest bus stop though."
Max turned around and met her gaze. For a brief moment, she thought she saw admiration in his eyes, "who are you hiding from?"
"I- have a conservative life…" she mumbled looking down at her hands.
"By vampire standards, so do I but you aren't taking a bus home. I'll drive you."
"You seemed pretty comfortable in the clubs to me," she edged.
"I swing by every now and then but that's not where I feed. It's just a part of my job. Come one, let me take you home before it gets too close to sunrise and I have to stay at your place."
As he began to drive, Erica began to question. "Why?"
"Why all of this?"
"With the humans and vampires?"
"It's a complex symbiotic relationship. It took us centuries to come to terms with our need for humans. Neither is the enemy. We agree to customer. Where do you live?"
"Ronchester Drive. The only apartments in apartment 101," she said to him rubbing up and down her thighs. Her legs ached because of the stupid shoes she wore.
As she sat in the passenger seat she fantasized over Max and the things she wanted him to do to her; starting with a massage that could lead into steamy touching as his hands explored her body and his tongue tracing lazy lines all over her body then him piercing her flesh in just the right spots to pleasure himself and her and to satisfy his need. From the corner of her eye, she regarded his handsome profile: Dirty blonde, scruffy hair, blue eyes, muscular, had that perfect slight beard and that beautiful accent that you can't refuse.
"Right there," she pointed.
Max stopped the car and put it in park as he turned towards her. He gave her a look that made her heart beat faster than ever before. "Erica, I don't wanna push you through anymore of this; let me continue on my own."
She felt disappointed. Why had she hoped he was going to kiss her? Instead he handed her his business card, "call me if you get any information."
"I'm not giving up Mr. Hart. No matter what you say."
"No! The things I saw- Elana can't be involved in that."
"She may be- it is her choice after all," he apposed.
"I refuse to believe that," she stated opening her door and putting one foot out onto the ground.
He grabbed her wrist and his gaze he gave her was like the gaze he gave her when he commanded her and her body instantly adjusted to his stare. "If you insist then I will take you with me. You can't go alone. You need someone to protect you."
She gave him a simple nod in response.
"How far are you willing to go to find her?" he asked letting go of her wrist.
"All the way."
"I don't think you know what that mean."
"Then show me."
"Alright. I'll come over early to go over the rules and I will have to bite you again."
"Will it hurt?"
"No, I can promise you that."
She nodded again before getting all the way out of the car, closing the door and then watching as he drove off.
