It was finally lunch. I ran out of history, 'world studies,' and went to my locker.
I didn't know if I did or didn't want Michael to be there.
I guess I wanted him to be, for when I walked up, I was disappointed that he was not.
My mom always told me, "Life can disappoint you, but if you let it get the best of you, you can't find out what's in the future."
I miss her. Her dying was or is my disappointment. So far, it IS, and always WILL be.
I shoved my book into the locker and went to the lunchroom. I was late so the line wasn't too long.
After I got my food I sat down at an empty table.
"Ari! There you are!" I saw Calum get up from another table and sat across from me.
While we were talking I saw Michael looking for a table. "Do you want to eat with us?"
He looked at me and half smiled, until his eyes revealed Calum, "No thanks..."
He walked over to another empty table and sat all alone.
I looked down and poked my mashed potatoes with my fork.
"Ari don't let it bother you. Remember? Life can disappoint you, but if you let it get the best of you, you can't find out what's in the future."
I looked up at Calum and smiled, "Thank you." He smiled back and we finished eating.
It came down to PE.
"Alright you brats," as he's always called us, "we're going to play dodgeball. Ariana and...Ahston..captains," the coach said, later putting people on our teams.
I had Luke and Michael. Ashton had Calum and Ashley and other idiotic people.
Red balls were flying from every angle.
I laughed as I hit Calum with the ball, "I'll get you some day little girl!" He said jokingly.
Some jerk all of the sudden pelted me with a ball in the stomach. It felt like someone shot me. I fell on my behind and started sobbing so no one would notice.
"Dude what the heck is wrong with you?! SHE'S A GIRL!" Luke said screaming at the boy, James, and kneeled down protectively hugging me.
Calum immediately looked up and saw me and darted towards me, "Ari are you okay?!"
"Okay.....Michael," his head shot up from looking at his shoes to where the coach was, " Take Ariana to the nurse to make sure nothing is bruised."
"O-okay..." Luke and Calum helped me up. Michael put his arm around my shoulder to help me walk.
"Hey I'm sorry," said James.
"Dude it's ok," Michael said a little annoyed.
"Ari I hope you feel better!" Ashton adorably shouted across the court.
"THANKS!" I giggled.
Half of the walk was quiet and awkward.
The nurse was in a completely different building, it took ages to get there.
"Ariana." Michael stopped and looked at me, "I'm sorry for being rude to you at lunch and didn't help you in PE...people spreaded rumors that I was arrested and crap, and I wasn't but it's the way I look. And some of it is Calum, but it's mainly because if people saw you hanging with me, they'd think I was like using you or would influence you or that you were crazy...I can't do that to you..."
I looked down. "Michael, I may not know you that well, and you may not know me that well, but thank you. And I don't care what people think, you are great. Feel free to hang with me. I don't care if they hate me."
He looked at me a little and smiled looking down again.
"So what's up with Calum?"
"N-nothing.." He looked at me assuring me he didn't want to talk about it.
"Okay," I said, trying to let it go.
He grabbed my hand, 'to lead me to the nurse,' me thinking more of that maybe he did it on purpose, and kept walking.
The nurse said my stomach would be lightly bruised, that's it.
After the final bell rang I got on the bus, sitting next to Luke. (Calum rode another bus)
"Thanks for your over-protection Luke."
He looked at me and smiled, "Anytime." He kissed my cheek and looked at his phone.
He did NOT just kiss MY cheek....
I smiled and blushed looking down and my black converse.
I stood up and looked at him, "Bye Luke." "Bye," he smirked after I smiled.
