Its been two days sense I first met One Direction and its been nothing but fun. We have gone to the movies and arcade and it was absolutely the best moments in my life. Today is the concert and I get to go with them to sound check. I decided to wear my One Direction t-shirt. Were going out to lunch today and their management made it so that no one else will be in the restaurant except the boys and I.
“Are you excited for the concert?” Niall asks me and because I’m in the middle of eating, I just nod my head. He smiles and continues eating.
“So, Payton, tell us about your cancer. Like what has happened other thing like that. We don’t really know.” Liam asks.
I don’t like talking about my cancer, I always feel like people are going to judge me. My eyes shifted to the painting across the room and I think the boys noticed because Harry broke the awkward silence, “You don’t have to tell us if you don’t want but were not going to judge you or anything like that.”
I wait a few seconds and then I start to tell them my story. “Well it was a little less than a year ago when I was at the beach and my mom noticed a spot on my back and we thought it was a bug bite or something well a week later another spot appeared and my mom made an appointment at a Dermatologist, which is a skin doctor.” I pause for a moment to breath and then I start up again.
“When I got there the lady looked at them and they ran a test and said it would be three days before the results were in so for three days I searched anything that was possible. I stumbled upon this page for a skin cancer called melanoma. I read everything and all of the symptoms I seemed to have and I started freaking out. I didn’t go to school for those three days and I didn’t even leave my room. I just sat in my bed staring at the page. When the Dermatologist called they
Confirmed my suspicion and told me that I did indeed have melanoma and they explained that I needed to go to this certain hospital called Florida Hospital that dealt with Skin Cancer. I go there at least ten times a month.” I tell them.
“How did you get to come here? Does the hospital do it?” Zayn asks.
“Well for every cancer patient they get a wish which is founded by The Wish Foundation. That’s how I got to come here because they contacted your manager and did what ever they had to and then once that got a yes. They pay for everything, the plane tickets, and the hotel and for the hotel if we order room service it’s free, but if we go to a restaurant or something then it costs. Were not really poor, we have money were just not rich. So it’s not like this is the only cool thing I’ve ever done.” When I’m done the boys have a mixture of awe and sadness in their eyes.
“Have you ever gone to Disney world or other amusement parks like that?” Louis asks.
“Yes last year before I was diagnosed I went to Disney world and then in February, Valentines Day weekend, we went to both Universal parks.” I smile at the boys and a few minutes later everyone is done with dinner and we get ready to head to the venue.
“When we get there we have something for you Payton and I think you’ll like it.” Niall tells me and puts his arm around my shoulders.
