“Cathleen Montague? Cathleen Montague?” Monsieur Dure called out. I raised my hand and he gestured to the stage. “Please step on to the stage and show us what you got.” He smiled at me confidently. I walked up the wooden steps and gracefully tripped on the top one. I heard some smirks from the other actors, but I tried to ignore them. I looked to my left and saw both Mason and Henry giving me thumbs up. I nodded at them and strode to the microphone.

“What can you do?” I heard a voice from the Box ask me.

“I can dance, sing, and act,” I replied trying to make my voice sound more convincing than I felt. I heard a whistle from the actors.

“She’s a triple threat,” I heard one of the girls whisper. Inside my head I smirked confirming their thoughts in my head.

“Well,” came the booming voice again. “Let’s see what you got.”

I pointed at Mason and he began a love song and I began to sing. I heard the audience gasp. I sang my heart out for the entire song.

“I wanted to write a love song, but all I did was get it wrong,” I ended on a low note. I felt all giddy inside. I just finished the first song I ever wrote! But now was the time for the dance. I backed away from the microphone and got into position. Mason began the next song I had taken clips from all different tempos of songs so I could show off what I could do. I started with hip hop, moved into jazz, ballet, and contemporary. I felt the music run through me and I danced like I never danced before. The music ended and I was disappointed but I remembered I was at an audition so I quickly moved on to the acting part. I did a small clip from my favorite musical and then I returned to the microphone. I was grinning like a madwoman but I didn’t care. I felt great. The only thing I heard was silence. It crushed my heart and I began to make my way offstage. All of a sudden a burst of applause came out from the audience.

“Where do you think you’re going?” The voice asked me and I returned to the mic. “You get the part of the lead!” He announced. There wasn’t any protest, other than one high-pitched screech.

“What!? You’re gonna let this amateur take MY part! What is wrong with you? I’ve been the lead in all the school plays, even a boy that one time! I want that part! I challenge Cathleen!” Genevieve yelled, causing everyone to gasp. Why’d I have to get the lead? I knew Genevieve would be upset if I got the lead, but I wasn’t expecting that role. I just wanted a bigger role than usual. And from what I’ve seen the challenge battles were brutal. I hoped I could handle it.
