I told him all about meeting my uncle and the Fighters and Kaleb and how the guy who tried to kill me wasn't a Fighter. He sat tensely, but quietly, through the whole thing. A flash of jealousy came into his eyes when I told him Kaleb hugged me, but I shrugged him off, hoping he’d know that Kaleb was just a new friend, and was going to stay a friend.
“I can’t believe you were kidnapped right under my nose!” Harry stood up furiously and began to pace. “I’m supposed to protect you; apparently not doing a good job at it.” He sighed and collapsed on the couch, pulling me towards him again. This time I just leaned on his chest and he rested his head on top of mine. “You can’t get hurt, Leena. You can’t.”
“I’m fine, I promise. But Harry,” I paused, lifting my head to look into his eyes, “Why are we fighting them if that’s the truth? And who tried to kill my father and kidnap me?”
“I never learned any of those things. Are you sure your uncle was telling the truth?” Harry questioned, and I nodded my head.
“I can tell he’s telling the truth. But your father,” I didn’t have to go any further because a hurt look passed over Harry’s eyes.
“If my father is truly ruthless enough to rage war against people just because they are different than us, then I don’t want to be anything like him. Oh,” Harry stopped, remembering he had just said he’d give up the throne for me.
I understood as well, “No, Harry. I know you promised, but I didn’t think about this. You could make a real difference by reuniting Faites and Fighters. You are what Faites needs right now.” By now I had sat all the way up staring right into his eyes. He grabbed my hands and lowered his head.
“I will do it,” he said and I smiled through the sadness. “But on one condition.”
Harry lifted his head with a serious look on his face, “You become the crown princess of Faites.”
For the second time that day, I sat there with my mouth hanging open. Crown princess? A princess in general? It was every little girls' dream to be one, and had been mine as well. But I never thought it would happen. Ever.
“Princess?” I was able to get out. He nodded. “But, I’m sixteen. I can’t get married. Plus you’re eighteen, isn’t that illegal?”
“Almost 17. I remembered your birthday," I blushed while Harry paused and thought for a moment, "There aren’t the same rules in Faites as there are here on Earth.”
“How can I be a princess of a realm that I know nothing about?” I tried to fight it, but he was insistent.
“I could teach you!”
“I’ve never even seen Faites! I don’t think they’d accept me as a princess, or a queen.”
“Yes you have! It's where you found your wind power. And I know they'll love you, and they already respect you," I raised my eyebrow, but Harry just hurried on, "It’s the only way I’ll be king, with you by my side."
“Okay, okay, fine, I’ll do it,” I sighed giving in, wanting to end the conversation and return to it later. “Lady Katherine would do a better job. She’s already a lady!” I thought as Harry smiled one of the biggest smiles I'd ever seen.
"I'll teach you all about Faites. It will become your new home," Harry enveloped me in another hug.
"Well I really need to take a shower, and work on homework. We do have to go to school tomorrow," I pulled away from him and sent him a smile back. His smile dropped off his face.
"You're challenge with Genevieve. It wasn't finished and she wasn't too happy. I'm afraid for you," Harry said.
"I'll be fine, I need to go to school, I need to get good grades for college..." I trailed off and Harry gave me a look. "Oh right. Princess of a different realm. Probably not going to go to college."
"So why even go to school? We can go to Faites and start your training. You can meet your mom and we can find out more about your powers. Please, please, please?" Harry puppy-dog eyed me and stuck out his bottom lip.
"Oh alright," I was really excited to do all, except the princess thing of course. "But wait, what about Mason and Henry? What am I going to tell them?"
Harry looked at me sadly, "Maybe tell them your parents found you and they're taking you far far away. You can come visit them as much as you want, but they can't know."
"Okay, I'm going to take a shower and go to bed," I smiled at him, trying to absorb that I was losing my friends and becoming a princess and going to another realm. "'Night Harry."
"Goodnight Princess of Faites," Harry turned and watched me head upstairs. I wait until I was out of his sight, and I began to shake. Shake from nervousness and being scared. Everything I knew was going to change. And just that thought of losing everything stable was terrifying. Losing my friends...not being able to see them every day. I remembered Harry saying Faites was technological, so I could stay in contact, but not seeing them, hugging them; that was saddening.
I reached my room and sagged on the doorframe. My dirty room was not helping my mood, so I set to clean it completely, which I hadn't done in years. I turned on my happy music and changed into a different set of sweats considering I walked through the woods in the ones I was wearing. Then I set about separating clean clothes from the dirty ones, cleaning some spider-webs with gross looking spiders, and straightening my desk. And mostly just throwing away papers I didn't need. I was dancing around my room to the beat when I heard a chuckle at the door. I flipped around and blushed.
"You're so cute," Harry said coming over and wrapping his arms around my waist.
"Whatever, now get out, I'm just about to take a shower," I pushed him towards the door, but he flipped around and jumped on to my newly-made bed. I growled in frustration and he just laughed at me.
"Just close the door, I won't go in," he winked and I groaned at him. I grabbed pajamas and as I went in I called out to him.
"I'm locking it too, you know," I heard him curse under his breath and I laughed with a smug look on my face, even though he couldn't see. I took a shower quickly, and changed into my pjs, and opened the door. I walked into my room to find a shirtless Harry asleep on my bed. He was laying on his stomach, his arms and legs spread out over my queen-sized bed. He hadn't even drawn the covers, so I just grabbed a blanket from my closet and moved him over, and climbed up next to him, draping the blanket over the both of us. I turned so I had my back to him.
Before I fell asleep, I sent a group text to Mason and Harry telling them to skip school the next day and come to my house. I wanted to tell them in person and say goodbye. I put my phone down on the side table next to me when I felt breath on the back of my neck, and an arm slipping beneath me and the other came over the top of me. Harry pulled me into him, his heat sending warmness into my body. I smiled and I felt him begin to run his fingers through my wet hair. He stopped for a moment and leaned to my ear.
"I love you."
