1. Alice and Lauren
Lauren dragged me through the street. "Lauren slow down. I'm gonna trip." I saw her black Vans stop. "Alice I am hungry. Now come on." Her red hair slapped me in the face. I looked at her eyes. The usually greens were rimed with blood red. "Okay." I squeaked. I smoothed my white sundress and continued to follow. My sandals slipped around beneath me but I ignored it. I stared at the glare on Lauren's black leather shirt. Her ripped jeans looked good with it. We walked up to the Black line café. That's where they served her kind. Yeah. Well Lauren is kinda a vampire. And I knew her boyfriend worked here. She walked up to the counter and ordered her "usual". A cup with her name and a heart was set down. The cup looked like the kind you put a ice coffee in, but instead there was a blood substitute. She sat at a table with Chase, her boyfriend. "Hey Alice, hey babe." She kissed him. "Now shut up. I need to eat." She joked. She didn't talk again. I studied Chase. I had done this a hundred times while Lauren ate. Same hair, same black tee shirt, same dark jeans. "Alice whatcha staring at?" I shook my head. "I don't know." Lauren set down her cup. "All done." Lauren got up and I did too. "What's the plan ladies?" Chase asked. "Shopping, lunch... For the human." That's what Lauren called me. I didn't mind. That was Lauren for ya. I remember how we met...
It was a night a couple of years ago. I was fifteen and going out for the first time. The karaoke bar was packed. Lauren stood at the edge of the room. I wasn't going up on the stage, horrible stage fright. So I just stared at Lauren. When we left I stood back to tie my shoe. My friends ran ahead. I finished and stood up... There was a man standing there. He tried to mug me. That's when Lauren came in and beat him hard. We've been friends ever since.
"Alice?" Lauren said. "Yeah?" "Let's go." And she dragged me out.
