The rest of the first semester flew by. Before I knew it, December was upon me.
December first. I was sitting in the Great Hall, sitting between Luna and Cho like always, signing things to Emilè. It seemed like a normal morning, right?
But an owl came for me. Okay. I forced myself to breathe. An owl!
A letter fell in front of my plate, and I opened it.
Whatever you do, do not come home. Addie had an accident. Dementor's Kiss. She's in St. Mungo's now. Our home is Dark now and wrecked. I am there, trying to restore it. But until I do, do now come home. Understand? It's too dangerous for you.
I hope you are enjoying your time at Hogwarts. Owl me back with everything you've done! Can't wait to see you this summer.
Love you lots,
Joey (your father!)
My insides turned to ice. My mother. The Dementor's Kiss? That was a fate worse than death... Now, my mother will live ordinarily for a year or so, living in her worst memory and despair, then she too will be a dementor.
Don't come home? Who does my father think I am? A good girl who doesn't do any evil? No. I will go home.
"What is it?" Cho asks.
I shake my head and shrug. "Nothing."
"Don't let the Nargels get you down, Adrianna." Came Luna's soft, girly voice.
I rolled my eyes, not having the feeling to talk back.
I stood up, letter in my hand, and walked to the table where the professors sat. "Headmaster Dumbledore?"
"Can I talk to you?"
"We're in the middle of eating."
"I know, and I'm sorry, but it's important. Here, just take this. It's a letter from my dad."
I reached out and gave it to him, and walked back to my seat.
