The Great Hall looked exactly the same, but this time I didn't feel like I was about to collapse with nerves. I take a seat next to Luna and and a Second named Cho Chang. Looking down at my golden plate, I wonder where the food is. Cho, as if reading my mind- or mayhap she hears my stomach- tells me that it'll magically appear after Dumbledore finishes his speech.
Sure enough, Dumbledore stands on the podium. He clears his throat, and begins his speech. "Welcome, new students, and welcome back, previous students." His voice was old, wizened. "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was created approximately..." He drones on, talking about Hogwarts. I find myself getting distracted by the fact that I was in the same room as Harry Potter. The Boy Who Lived went to the same school as me, was in the same year as me, and, heck!, we were the same blood type! I was older by him by one day.
"And now," said Dumbledore, raising his hands, "let us eat!"
We all clap politely, our eyes on our plates. Sure enough, food appeared. Pork chops, lamb stew, vegetables, and pumpkin juice to drink. I heap the veggies on my plate- I am a vegetarian- and dig in.
The vegetables were stir-fried, delicious. The pumpkin was light, crisp, and refreshing. Overall, it was the best meal I've ever had, and I are until I could hold in no more.
When happy groans went around, Dumbledore spoke again. "Prefects, lead your House to their dormitories. Goodnight, students. Remember, breakfast is at seven. And on your bed will be your schedule."
Prefect Susanna led us back to the Ravenclaw common room, where we all excitedly ran up to our dormitory, eager to see our schedules.
