6. 5 - The Fell Beasts
The Fell Beasts
Film: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (Not the books as they are considered pterosaurs, not dragons in the books.)
These monsters can stand about 2.5 meters tall, a bit small in height but they certainly make up for that in length. These behemoths grow about 25 meters in length due to their long necks and vast tails. Their wingspan is larger though, possibly 30 meters or larger! They are gargantuan for a single steed.
The creatures are not known for their beauty, for they are horrible looking dragons, with jagged teeth and snake like appearance. Also known as "Hell Hawks" or "Nazgûl-birds", these giants roam the skies with their riders, the Nazgûls, watching the ground for potential targets. They were given to the Nazgûls when their horses were destroyed, making the Nazgûls even more deadly then they were before. How to tell if a Fell Beast is coming your way, if you don't see it first, listen for its cry. It sounds mostly like a very low pitched bird and a lion mixed together, quite high pitched compared to other dragons.
These animals do not have a connection to an element, yet they have immense strength. They have been know to pluck riders off of their horses and dropping them to a messy demise, or picking up the horse and rider in one clutch, and even the break down catapults. Their bite is even more destructive, with brutal jaw strength. So as to not be picked up by its grasp, hide under something, and quickly; falling to your death is a horrible way to go.
How to kill:
If you attempt to pluck this dragon out of the sky with an arrow, think again. Not one Fell Beast has been known to be downed by an arrow, not one. They are simply too large to be felled by feeble bows. The only way to slaughter the animals is to cut off its head directly or to stab its heart. It has no armour what so ever, so cutting its flesh is no hard task. And another way to distract this creature to go in for a final blow, is if you are a mage, is to blast a sudden burst of light into their eyes. Due to their dark living conditions, they abhor light and so will either flee or stumble at the sight of luminosity.
Go! Kill those fiends of the sky, they deserve no mercy, for you shall receive none from them!
