I pushed the coins into the pay-phone and dialed. As soon as it rang, mum picked up the phone with worry in her voice, "Hello?"
"Mum," I began, she gasped at the moment she heard my voice, "Come home... please... come home." She sobbed.
It killed my dead heart to hear her cry. I want to come back home, I do, but not after what I've done at the hospital, and besides, I'm a zombie now. She'll never understand. No one will.
I tried again, "Mum... the only reason I called is, I want to let you know I'm alright. Please forget that I exist because I won't be coming back. I love you. Bye." Right when mum spoke, I hung up the phone, cutting her off, "W-!"
I walked back to the direction of the cemetery, which isn't that far. By the time I reached the end of the street, two policemen caught me, and put me in handcuffs, forcing me into the backseat.
I can't believe this is happening. How am I going to go back and return the key? Headmistress Wilt and the others will be furious! They can't get out, so there's no way I can be saved!
I'm panicking, and I don't have anything in my pockets to use to break out of these handcuffs.
It's not a long drive to the police station. After arrival, they took me into a room for questioning.
They asked things like, "What happened that night you were at the hospital?" And, "A nurse was found with her brains out on the floor, a broken window, and you missing. Would you like to tell us about that?"
I worked my way around the questions, not revealing anything abnormal with, "I don't know." And when they asked me to remove the hood, I froze. They're not going to like what they see. I closed my eyes, and pulled it back off my head.
"What's wrong with your skin?" The man asked, "It's just a skin disease thing I have." I replied.
They pushed harder for me to answer. I continued to say, "I don't know." And they replied, "I think you do know."
I looked up and said, "I freaked out when I saw her lying on the floor, so I broke out through the window."
At the moment they saw my eyes, the man sat back feeling uneasy, "The doctor gave me your results that you caught a disease by the boy who bit you. It says you're body is dying. Seems kind of odd don't you think?"
I remained silent, and then he spoke again, "I think, you attacked the nurse. You took her out by the head, and fled the scene. Why do you think you did that? Is the disease making you crazy, too?"
I can't deny it anymore. I gave in. They locked me up in an isolated room. They took the key out from my pocket and put it in a tub of things I can't hurt anyone or myself with.
