3. Oak Island
~~When I got off the plane, I rented a car and drove directly to our spot on the beach and sat there and watched the sun go down over to water. I knew I was a little late on meeting him, but part of me hoped he would show up.
“Bethany?” I turned around and saw him standing there; taller than I remember and he looked a hell of a lot better.
“Hi Harry…sorry I’m late…”
“Better late than never.” I smiled and ran into his arms, giving him the biggest hug ever. We sat on the beach talking for a little while, catching up before he finally mentioned the ring on my finger. “So…you’re engaged.” Harry said slowly to me.
“Who’s the lucky man?” I smiled a little and looked at my ring again.
“Tyler Posey.” I said slowly. “He’s an actor.”
“Oh; what’s he in?”
“Teen Wolf.” I said slowly.
“That’s cool; I’ve seen you in a bunch of magazines. I just wanted to hear it from you, yourself.”
“Well…surprise.” I said slowly. Harry laughed and looked back out at the water.
“Does he make you happy?” I nodded my head and smiled.
“Yeah, we does.”
“Good; does he know you’re here?”
“Yeah, he’s coming own when he finishes filming for the season. He should be done soon and he’s coming down here to meet my mom.”
“I bet she’s excited.”
“Yeah she really is.”
“Well that’s good then. How’d you meet him?”
“I was asked to design a line for the show and when I went to deliver it, he was there. We’ve talked ever since.”
“Well that’s fun. How is the business coming along?”
“Really well. How is basketball? I know you were doing really well in college.”
“Yeah, the draft is coming up soon for the NBA so…I’m just waiting for news from my agent to tell me what’s going to happen. If I don’t make it, I have a coaching job lined up for Duke so…either way I’m still going to be involved in basketball somehow.”
“That’s always a plus; doing what you love.”
“Yeah, you would know. I can’t believe it’s only been four years and you already have a big fashion line and that you’re running your own company.” Harry said, smiling at me.
“Yeah, it’s pretty awesome.” I paused for a minute to look around. “How is everyone else? Is anyone still around?”
“Yeah, most people are still here. I’ve been around Zayn, Louis, Niall, and I heard Liam is coming back within the next few days. Cara and Rita are back too. A lot of people are still here, or coming back.”
“So not much has changed I’m taking it?”
“Yeah, not much. So does your mom know you’re here?”
“No, I haven’t told her I’m here. I told her I would come down but we talked about that this morning. She doesn’t know I’m already here.”
“Well…let’s go see her than. I saw her earlier this week. I’m sure she would love to know her only daughter is back in town.”
“Okay…” I said as we slowly got up and made our way back to our cars. We drove back to my house to see my mom, and I was honestly nervous. I haven’t seen her in 4 years and I was scared of how she would react to that since I know I was the only one she had in her life since my dad’s accident.
I followed her back to her mom’s house. I was honestly surprised she came down. After she didn’t come down the day we made our pact, I was sure she forgot. Then there’d the fact that she’s engaged. I mean, I didn’t expect her to be single because I too had my fair share of college relationships but those are easy to break up but an engagement? That’s completely different. Coming between two people that are engaged is crazy. I mean, I’ve seen the news, the magazines; I knew they were together but I didn’t know it was this serious. A part of me hoped it was all for the publicity…but apparently it was completely serious and I didn’t really like it.
When we got to her mom’s house, I helped her get the bags from her car and followed her up to the front door. She knocked on the door before slowly opening it.
“Mom?!” Half a second didn’t even go by before her mom came flying from the kitchen to hug her.
“Hi mom.” Bethany said, dropping her bags and wrapping her arms around her mother.
“I didn’t expect you so early? Where’s Tyler?” She said as she let Bethany go.
“He’s finishing up some filming and then he was going to come down and spend the rest of the summer with us.”
“Oh good; and nice to see you again Harry.”
“You too.” I said, smiling as I kissed her cheek.
“Are you staying here for tonight?”
“I think I’m going to go walk around town with Harry; you know, catch up, and see everything.”
“Alright. Well, I’ll take care of your bags. You two go have some fun! I’m sure it’s been a long time since you’ve seen each other.”
“Yeah, four years.” I said, smirking at Bethany.”
“Oh please…we’ve both been busy!” She said, defending herself.
“Okay, well let’s go out tonight and maybe I’ll forgive you for those four years.” I suggested.
“Then let’s go; I can’t have my best friend mad at me.” We all laughed and put her bags down before her and I left, hoping into my car.
