"You what?" I say, incredulous. "You...what the hell..?" Ethan stood (floated?) in front of me, sheepish expression on his still slightly unkempt, yet handsome, face.
"Uh huh," He says vaguely, running his hands through his already messy hair. "this is home. Where I'm from."
"And that makes you not human." I say, trying to understand. It's so strange here, the inexplicable light t, the way we seem to be alone, the way time seems distorted, as if everything's playing in slow motion.
I have no idea what the date is today.
Is it April Fools?
"I guess. I'm half human, really." He looks up at me, biting his lip the way he does when he's nervous, like he's afraid of how I might react. I think it's April Fools.
"Right." I roll my darkly outlined eyes, "Sure, I'll bite. What's you other half supposed to be?" He looks at me, his mesmerizing brown eyes capturing and penetrating my own green ones, expressionless.
'A creature of light,' His deep, sexy voice echoes inside my head, reverberating inside my skull. My eyes widen.
"What the hell was that?! Were you reading my mind?!" I shout, shaking my head, as if to straighten it out.
"Did I scare you?" His eyes look mournful, guilty. "I'm so sorry Lucy."
"No, not scary, just...unnerving. Next time, ask." I say, sighing. Normally I'd be so done right now, but I guess when you randomly find yourself in places that seem to be made of light, you become a little more accepting.
"Okay darling, I'll ask. You okay?" He wraps me in his arms and I lean my head against his shoulder, looking up so my mouth is next to his ear.
"I'm fine," I say. "The mind-voice thing is kind of hot, actually." He grins.
"Yep, I think you're fine too."
