The air is filled with love and passion.
We move slowly, and everything in the atmosphere is almost liquidy and frozen. He smells like sweat and soap, and his breaths match up with mine. My body feels numb and the hairs on my skin begin to slowly stand. Despite the breeze being wild tonight, our bodies feel hot and my eyes roll back.
He caresses and cares for my body, and I attempt to do the same. But, my mind is too unconnected to my actions, and too connected on what he's doing. He moves rhythmically, as if to a certain slow song stuck in his head. When we finish, he kisses my lips for a beautiful, and explosive conclusion.
The air feels thin for what feels like an eternity, and I feel nothing but him, the thin and cool air. I place my hand on his heart to feel it race and I shiver underneath him. He pulls out from our kiss, and he stares in my eyes.
"You're so beautiful," he says as we lie there naked. His brown eyes pierce mine and he rests his forehead on mine as we sit up. I blush, and he smiles brightly.
He brushes my hair out of my face with his thumb, and he just watches my eye movement as they dart across the perfect canvas of his face.
"I'm so glad I met you," he says. His face looks serious, but somewhat enamored; like I was last night when looking at the moon.
"I'm so glad I met you too," I say with a giggle. He makes me so nervous when he looks in my eyes.
"Lay on my chest and rest, baby." He lays himself on the grass and brings to laying on his chest. His breaths are steady and calculated; they feel like he's trying to sooth me. Eventually, I fall asleep watch the sun as it rises.
When I awake, the surface I lay on feels like silk.
Justin's no longer under me, and I stand to put on my clothes. The sun is high in the sky, and it looks to be about noon. It feels warm and soothing on my skin, I stretch and it feels amazing. My body hurts from last night, but he tried his best to take care of me considering I was a virgin.
I can't believe we had sex, I start to think. For a moment I feel a little shy of myself and and slightly ashamed, but I know I have no reason to be.
The stick isn't where it was so I walk back to the Cots and find that everyone is getting dressed and taking showers. May sits on her bed with her head in her hands. I walk over to her and place my hand on her shoulder, she shrugs me off.
"What's wrong M?" I soothingly ask. At first, she stays silent for a couple of seconds but eventually she looks up at me.
"Nothing," She smiles. "I'm just a little exhausted."
"Yeah me too," I say but it's a lie.
"Wait, where've -" She starts but I cut her off.
"Don't ask, don't tell." She groans and turns to her bedside table.
"So secretive, so secretive." She shakes her head as she goes through her drawers. She removes all her clothes and she turns around.
"May, what the hell did I say about that." I laugh and she just looks at me seriously. She opens her mouth like she just realized what I meant and she hides her body in shame. She laughs and turns around.
"You're gonna have to get use to seeing people naked soon," she says as she turns her head to wink at me.
"What's that suppose to mean?" I say. She keeps getting dressed, but she shakes her head.
"Just because you didn't answer me," she mumbles. "Doesn't mean I don't know where you went last night."
I stand there, shocked. Then again, she's been here longer than I have and she already knows I have a thing for him.
"Don't look so shocked," she laughs.
After she gets dressed, we meet with Bounty, the kid from the rooftops. His blue eyes are beautiful and his charm almost pops out of them.
"Hey May," he says with his white smile. "And my lovely lady."
He mockingly bows to his knee and holds out his hand. I touch his hand with my finger so that he stands, and so he does with that slick smirk. I look up to see Justin standing on the sidelines with the other guards as we move past.
He watches my movement through his shades whilst the others watch the sky. I feel his gaze pierce my skin and for a reason I can't point out, I feel as though he's upset. When he sees I've caught him, he looks away and stands straight like a statue.
"Do you think someone's gonna get kicked out?" M asks. I shake my head, but I'm not too sure.
"Eh," Bounty shrugs. "We don't know much yet."
"Who do you think did it?" May says with a childlike curiosity. It sort of annoys me that she's so interested.
"Probably Henry." Henry is one of the other male initiates. He has blonde hair and green eyes. He's pretty built for his age, but he's not so attractive.
"I don't think you should start rumors," I say.
"And your concern is?" Bounty asks with little discernment.
"I just feel it's rude."
We continue to walk and talk for a few minutes until we reach the center. We pass through a pretty decent looking park, but the buildings on either side are charred and beaten. But, there are no signs that this place was even once inhabited.
I'd expected a building, but we meet at the middle of a square where seats are standing in rows for us to sit. The ground is covered in red carpet and in the front lie a huge stage with the words ANNOUNCEMENT written on it's banner.
"Wow, they set up pretty nicely." May jumps in front of us and struts toward the seats with mock elegance.
"I might have a new sweetheart," Bounty laughs.
M turns around to expose her flush red cheeks and she tries to hide her embarrassment. Her strut stops and she begins to walk normally as she tries to ignore his compliment. Does she like Bounty?
The rows of seats fill quickly, but everyone stands and chat rambunctiously all around. Still, Justin remains out of sight and so do the two boys whom touched me. I wonder if they tried to run away, but my thought was quickly cut off as Justin steps out onto the stage. He taps the mic until it turns on.
"Everyone please," he says loudly. "We needs to stay at least a little out of sight."
Everyone chuckles, but his mouth remains straight, stern, and disciplined. The loud activity starts to cut down when everyone else begins to notice his serious attitude.
"Last night after our last meeting," he begins. "I'd found two members assaulting one of our other members."
I can't believe they're actually exposing them.
"So, to keep this message brief, I will get on with the purpose of this meeting. Bring them out."
The guards bring the two kids up the steps and they walk willingly. They remain unrestrained as if they didn't need to be. Wait wha-
"These two scum will no longer be a part of the crew," he yells. This is the first time I've ever seen him so passionate. "Stand in front of me."
The walk over to stand in front of him, blocking the view of the audience. Justin comes forward and stands in front of them with authority. He holds his arm out toward the guard and he hands him a gun as the female guard blocks the other side. Holy shit.
The crowd stars to gasp and scream, but before anyone can stop them, Justin points the gun to the kids head.
"Admit what you did," he spits. The kid stays silent but anxiety spreads across his face. He gulps and Justin slams the butt of the gun into his trachea. I want to scream out to tell him that what he's doing is wrong, but I stop breathing and I can't speak.
"This is your last chance," he yells. The kids both start to bust out in tears, but Justin keeps his persistence.
"I did it," the kids cries. "I fucking raped her."
With that, the first shot is fired and the body drops to the floor with a thump.
"Your turn," he says. It's too late though, the kid hops of the stage and starts taking off toward the woods. Justin shoots in his direction but he misses and almost hits someone in the ground. The girl starts screaming and everyone starts to freak out. I stand there shocked as I watch Justin wipe the blood off his face with nothing but a serious face and zero remorse.
"Everyone keep their mouths shut," he yells. The room goes silent out of fear of death, but people mumble under their breaths and tears slide down their faces.
"Let him be an example," he says. "If anyone breaks anything from the ten commandments God will strike you down." His voice grows with the tension of the room.
"So from now on," he blares. "I am your God."
He drops the mike and walks off stage as the room goes dead silent. Nobody moves a muscle and the guards follow behind him. I want to - I have to- go talk to him, but I can't even move. Blood drips from the cracks of the stage, like the light and the cracks of the wooden stick.
I feel somehow responsible, and I collapse to the ground.
