29. To always show up
Harry had bought a house for us outside the city. We had opted for a smaller, more Maggie-adapted house, which suited me fine. We had plenty of room, but it looked more like a home and not as something boastfully. Harry allowed me to participate in deciding the furniture, carpets and all that we would have with us. Most of my old stuff we sold and I just chose to keep memorabilia and that I wanted to keep.
"I will be gone this weekend!"
I looked up from the box and I looked surprised at Harry. He came into the kitchen and he smiled at me.
"It's a gig, a band and this is their first gig."
"But we wont start working until about a week?"
Harry kissed me and he looked at me with pleading eyes.
"Please understand that this is a bit important. I'll be home on Sunday and then we take back everything we'll miss."
I sighed and I smiled at him.
"Okay, if it's important?"
Harry kissed me and I felt his lips against mine. He was a good husband, a little odd at times, but he was perfect. He released me and he smiled at me.
"I love you and you know I'll be home sooner than I should?"
I nodded and I laughed a little bit.
"I can handle two nights without you."
He grinned and he played angry.
"You mean you do it all without me?"
I nodded and I laughed.
"Yes, and you do it without me?"
He nodded and with a teasing glance, he left the kitchen.
"I'll be extendable frame always?"
I laughed a little bit and I picked order the last stuff. I chose to leave the kitchen and I walked through the living room and into his office. He had the smallest room in the house, but he felt that he needed no more for his paper.
"Are they famous?" I asked a little bit. He sat down and he looked at me quickly.
"Five sos and they're from Australia?"
I hadn't heard about them.
"Okay, but call when you're on your way home. When are you leaving?"
I spent the whole day to sort out all the rooms. When afternoon came, I realized that I was finished and my house was ready. I was happy and I went down to the kitchen. It was empty without Harry, but at the same time I was doing what I wanted. I got many choices and he loved to give me the choice.
The doorbell rang and I balked. I had no idea who it was, but I chose to go out to the door and I opened it.
I almost fainted. Niall stood there and I saw at him that he was nervous. He stood quite still and he looked at me with his blue eyes. I noted that he was older and he had got laughter lines around the eyes, otherwise he was the same person. He always showed up when I had managed to get him away and this time it was almost worse than when he came to my wedding.
"Harry will be home soon!" I said quickly, and I lied. Niall smiled and he laughed a little bit.
"Really?" he said, and he knew more than I thought. "Five sos ...?"
I realized that he knew that Harry was away and Niall had planned to come to me.
"Please Niall don't do this to me."
He laughed a little bit and then he took out two papers from his pocket. He gave them to me and I had to accept them. One was a paper that showed that Nialls father was dead, and the second paper was proof that he had been divorced. I was startled and I just stared at them.
"I'm free!" he whispered tenderly. "I have waited this so many years and at last I am free."
I hesitated. Would I be happy for him or would I regret that the father was dead?
Niall smiled and he took a few steps toward me.
"So now I'm here?"
I looked up at him and I frowned.
"Why are you here?"
"To pick you up?"
