It was past midnight by the time Ginny entered the dormitory.
"Hermione, I know you're up. Can we talk?" she whispered, as she approached my bed.
Slowly I sat up and blinked, as I looked directly into the light of her wand.
"Alright but not here." I answered and she nodded, taking the wand away, as she turned and left the room.
As this was the only chance for me to save our friendship, I quickly got up, slipped into my dressing gown and slippers and exited.
Ginny was pacing impatiently in front of the fireplace in the common room. There was no smile lighting up her face as I walked up to her. No trace of friendliness or comfort at all. What had once been a promising friendship was now nothing more than an acquaintance.
"Let's go." she said and left, I followed up closely.
The school seemed even colder, walking in the frosty atmosphere of Ginnys' disappointment in me. Not very surprisingly, our walk ends in the room of requirement. The very same room, the whole situation had escalated earlier only few hours ago.
"Why?" Ginny asked, her voice barely audible, her back turned to me.
Why what? Why had I eavesdropped on them? Why had I become a Death Eater? Why had I chosen the path I'm on?
"How?" she asked, her voice trembling.
How what? How could I betray them? How did I become a Death Eater? How could I live with my decisions?
So many questions she could have asked, yet she spoke only one word.
"No." she said, her voice raised slightly.
No? What did she mean.
"Ginny, you must understand." I whispered.
It was my voice now, that was barely audible.
"No. I'm not accepting this, I will fight for our friendship at any cost. There's no way Harry can influence my decision, Hermione I want you to stay my friend." Ginny explained herself and turned to face me.
She was stronger than me, after all my love for Draco had a great influence on my choices. Especially joining the Dark Lord. Never would I have considered it, nor even wasted a thought on it, still I went wrong there. Perhaps she could help me on my decision, before I make another mistake.
"I hate that you're a Death Eater." Ginny mumbled, facing the floor.
"About that, I want to ask you for advice." I tell her and she lifts her head.
"Hermione. Do you think I can join?" she asks, her voice strong and steady, leaving no doubt that she was serious about it.
