10. Blueberries

~~~ Belle’s P.O.V ~~~
            Holy crap. Niall asked me out - Niall…as in the Niall Horan, 1/5 of the best band ever, One Direction. I’m sure I was grinning like an idiot, but I couldn’t help it. Obviously, like every other fangirl, I had joked with friends that one day I would be Mrs. Horan, but never in a million years did I ever think I would get the chance. I mean, not that he’s going to propose anytime soon, but still. I’m in shock. Reese will never believe what happened.
            It was so cute. Niall looked so nervous and adorable I thought I would die. I’m a little scared about making the whole long-distance thing work. I mean, they are still on tour and all. Although… I could travel around the world with them instead of my original travel plans for the gap year I was taking. To be honest, I didn’t exactly plan much.
            As a thousand thoughts were swirling through my head still, Niall bit his lip nervously and asked, “So, what do you want to do?”
            “Um, I don’t know haha. You decide,” I replied.
            “Well, the boys and your friend will be gone for at least another thirty minutes… maybe more if Harry manages to seduce Reese,” he laughed.
            “He can try, but she actually has a boyfriend. They’ve been dating for three years now and they’re going to college together in the fall, so she’s pretty loyal.”
            “Aw that’s really cute actually,” Niall smiled. “Harry will be disappointed, but he can get over it. As for now, wanna watch a movie? Your pick.”
            “Fine with me. That sounds pretty chill. What about Grease?”
            “Are you just saying that ‘cause it’s my favorite movie?”
            “Partially,” I admitted. “But it is a really good movie.”
            “It is, but we’re not seeing it, unless it’s your favorite movie too. I wanna get to know you, which means we’re watching your favorite.”
            “Fine, um, I have a lot of favorite movie, but my all time favorite is probably The Little Mermaid. Somehow I don’t think you want to watch a Disney princess movie though…”
            “If it’s your favorite, I’m happy to watch it as long as you’re here.”
            “Aw you’re so sweet,” I smiled.
            “I know,” he laughed.
            It was the most perfect, yet cliché moment. Everything about the night was sort of cliché, like something I’d read out of one of my favorite fanfics. Going home that night was going to be weird. My typical bedtime routine includes lying in bed, reading Niall fanfics and imagining I was the main character until I fell asleep. It was going to be a bit hard to do that now, since I knew him personally. Hell, who am I kidding, I doubt I’ll even be able to fall asleep.
            After pulling The Little Mermaid up on the TV and jumping onto the couch, Niall ran over to the wall, turned off the lights, then came back and threw a blanket over us.
            “Trying to seduce me, aren’t you?” I asked, smirking and trying not to laugh.
            “We’ll see if it works,” he smirked back.
            By the time Ariel started singing Part of Your World, Niall had his arm casually draped around me. At first he seemed nervous, like he was scared I’d reject him, but once he realized there was no way in hell I was going to do that, he relaxed more. Tired, I rested my head on his chest, trying to keep my eyes open. It had been a long night and although before I thought there was no way I could fall asleep, it was starting to catch up to me. Things just seemed so sweet and innocent and perfect with Niall. It was like nothing really mattered anymore. I forgot how much my ex hurt me and while I still didn’t fully trust Niall, he just seemed like the type of guy who couldn’t break your heart. Eventually, the colors on the screen burred together and faded to black.
            “OH MY GOD WHAT IS HAPPENING?!” I jumped off the couch suddenly awakened by a bucket of cold water.
            “NOT COOL HARRY!” Niall, who had also fallen asleep apparently, shouted.
            “Hey it was Louis’ idea,” Harry tried to play innocent.
            “Shut up it was all of us,” Louis laughed, unable to hide his guilt.
            “Reese! You traitor!!” I shouted.
            “You two just looked so peaceful…” Zayn smirked.
            “I take it you finally asked her?” Liam asked.
            “Yeahhh,” Niall smiled, squeezing my hand.
            “OH MY GOSH THAT’S SO CUTE I’M SO HAPPY FOR YOU!!” Reese screamed, jumping up and down with excitement. “I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!”
            I gave Reese a “stop fangirling I’ll explain everything later” look, so she finally shut up. I could tell it was hard for her. I don’t blame her though. If one of the boys had asked her out I’d be throwing a party and shooting silly string all over the dressing room by now. Come to think of it, what were Zayn and Harry throwing all over the room?
            Soon I heard Liam’s half-joking voice, “I thought there would be no more throwing fruit...”
            “Fruit?” I asked confused.
            “We ran out of confetti, so we’re throwing blueberries! See?” Harry held up a hand full of the small, round fruit.
            “Okayyyy,” Reese and I laughed, deciding to join in.
            Eventually we had even convinced Liam to join and it soon become yet another infamous One Direction dressing room food fight. While it had started with innocently celebrating Niall and I (or at least that’s what I assumed), had quickly turned into Louis trying to be the next Fruit Ninja. Jumping off the couch, wielding a hairbrush, he tried to hit the apples Harry tossed at him.
            “WHAT IS GOING ON IN HERE?!” Paul’s loud voice echoed through the room.
            We quickly threw down the fruit we were holding, not that it did any good. We were caught red handed. Reese and I gave each other nervous looks - guess that was the end of our stay in the dressing room. Liam was the first to speak.
            “We were, uh, celebrating,” he tried to explain.
            “Really? By throwing fruit around? You know most boys your age would try to sneak out to a bar and get wasted. I don’t know which is worse. Trying to cover up underage drinkers or cleaning up this fruit mess…”
            “You know you love us deep down inside,” Harry said, flashing his cheeky smile that typically only worked on girls.
            “It’s the only reason I’m still around,” he laughed. “You can’t get rid of me this easily. Try to clean up as best as you can, we’re hitting the road in an hour. Be ready by then and you won’t get a time out.”
            “Yes sir,” Louis saluted him.
            “Oh, and while these two girls seem lovely, maybe it’s time for them to go home.”
            Paul walked out, winking at Reese and me right before he closed the door. The next thirty minutes were spent trying to scrub bits of fruits off the floor and attempting to cover up the juice spilt on the couch with various pillows. In the end, the boys turned to us, saying goodbye.
            “I don’t think this is the last we’ll be seeing you two beautifuls,” Harry looked at me.
            “Belle at least will be around all the time if I have any say in it,” Niall smiled.
            “Are you serious?! I can come back?? I mean, I know Belle can but me too?!” Reese jumped up excitedly.
            “Of course! Belle needs to bring her other friends too.”
            “I will, I will,” I smiled, glad they liked Reese.
            “Hey lads, could you give Belle and me a moment?” Niall asked.
            As I watching four fifths of One Direction plus Reese walk out the door, I turned to Niall, a slight feeling of sadness entering me.
            “So I guess this is goodbye for now?” I looked down.
            “Hey, don’t be sad. Besides, didn’t you say you wanted to see the world? Why don’t you travel with us? I mean, I’m sure you don’t want to live in the tour bus, but you could rent a car and we’ll find you good hotels and stuff and I mean, I’m sorry you probably don’t want to. You just met me today like that would be too much commitment and you probably have plans and--”
             “Actually, I was kind of hoping you ask that,” I cut him off, smiling shyly.
            “Really? So you’ll do it? This won’t be goodbye?”
            “Well, I mean, I’ll have to pack stuff up and make arrangements, but I can probably meet up with you guys in three or four days.”
            “That would brilliant! You’ll text me?”
            “Well, I would if I had your phone number,” I laughed.
            “Oh, wait, sorry, here’s my phone.”
            We traded phones, entering our phone numbers in, along with a selfie of us making funny faces. I still couldn’t believe what was happening. Here I was holding Niall Horan’s phone…getting his number!!!
            “Here you go love. I’ll miss you.”
            “I’ll miss you too. See you in a couple of days.”
            Niall then wrapped his arms around me in one of his famous “Horan hugs.” Kissing my forehead, I thought I heard him whisper, “thank god she was here.” To be honest though, I could’ve been hearing things. My entire stomach was filled with butterflies - the good kind that only come around when dreams come true. Pulling away slightly, Niall shifted to put his arm around my waist so we could walk out.
            After meeting up with Reese and the boys, they walked us out, only for us to realize we had canceled the limo and forgotten to book another.
            “Uh, Belle? What do we do now?” Reese asked.
            “Call another I guess?”
            “But won’t it take forever for them to get here? I mean, what if someone tries to kidnap us?”
            “Oh like Louis did earlier?” I laughed.
            “You know what I mean!” she playfully slapped me.
            “Hey loves, I don’t mean to interrupt this productive conversation, but we can wait with you until it arrives,” Liam said sweetly.
            “But what if you’re late?” I asked.
            “Eh then we’ll just deal with Paul,” Harry laughed, just as Niall whispered in my ear, “I’d rather be late than lose you.”
