"So, who's the next door cutie?" Summer asks me.
I look up from the rim of my coffee mug. "Excuse me?"
"I saw you two last night from my window. He's pretty hot, what's his name?" She says.
"Oh... uh, his name's Matthew. He just moved in..."
"Uh huh... I think I'll go say hello later." She says, more to herself than to me.
"What?" I nearly choke on my coffee.
"Ooh, you like him don't you?! Oh, this is gonna be fun."
"What are you talking about? I just met him, I don't have a crush." I retort. Total lie, Matthew was cute and I thought he was really cool. I wanted to get to know him better, but I know Summer. She'll get him wrapped around her finger quicker than I ever could.
"Oh yeah? Then can I go flirt with him?" She asks.
"Uh..." I take a deep breath. "Yeah, sure I guess. I don't really care."
She smiles victoriously. "Thanks hon, I'm gonna go freshen up."
She walks up to her room and I sigh. Boys and I have never stood a chance when Summer is in the situation. They always like her more, then again she does whatever she wants with them. I mean, I love Summer like she's a sister, but she sleeps with so many guys it's sad.
She walks downstairs a few hours later, I'm in the middle of an oil painting when I see her. As always, she's wearing a crop top and high-waist shorts that her butt hangs out of. She straightened her hair and has on so much makeup I could paint off her face.
I silently laugh to myself, that was a good one. "I could paint off your face!"
"Yeah, well, I'm going to go flirt with Mark." She says. She checks her lip gloss in the mirror and I sigh to myself.
"It's Matthew, not Mark."
She rolls her eyes and leaves. I stop painting and think about what's currently going on. My best friend of four years is going after my crush. Did I just call him a crush? Dammit I did! Well, maybe I do like him...
Thoughts run through my mind of how good of a friend Summer is when she storms back inside.
"Well you're home early," I comment.
She glares at me. "That looser is a total jerk."
"Really?" That doesn't sound like Matthew, he was nice to me at least.
"You know what he told me? 'You look cold'. Who says that to a girl?" She rants.
"Summer, you're wearing a crop top in low sixty degree weather, I feel cold just looking at you." I tell her.
"He didn't even invite me inside! How rude! It was like he didn't even notice me!" She says getting more angrier by the second. "Wanna know the worst of it? When I told him I was staying with you he asked me about you. He got so happy when I brought you up, ugh I hate men!"
I bit my lip to keep from smiling, Matthew asked about me? Me?! I waited until Summer went up into her room to let the excitement sink in, he asked about me! Me!!!
I jumped up and danced around to All Time Low's 'Somewhere In Neverland' that happened to be playing on my phone. He asked about me!
My phone went off playing my ringtone of Taylor Swift's 'You Belong With Me' and I stopped dancing. I checked the sender's number, I didn't think I knew it but I read the message.
Hey, it's Matthew, your friend came over earlier and got mad when I asked if she was cold... weird... anyways, do you want to grab lunch with me? I've only been here for a while, so if you know of any good places that'd be awesome. :)
I giggled to myself, I sent a quick reply asking for five minutes and saying I knew of the best pizza parlor here. I rushed upstairs and grabbed a sweater then applied a little makeup. I rushed outside and over to Matthew's, this would be so much fun!
