- Rocky -
Its been about 3 years since i’ve seen my family and friends. 3 years since i’ve had a regular life. 3 years since I agreed to move from Chicago to New York.
I’m now 17 and after constant working as a model, I decided to finally visit my hometown. Its summertime and I really think that I need a break. I kinda quit school about a few months after I left Chicago. At first when my management told me this news I was upset but after some modeling gigs for high rated magazines and continuous success...it was the least of my worries.
I still talk to my friends and family, through Skype. I don’t really call or text..just Skype. Molly takes all my calls. My parents call everyday which i’m usually too busy to call them back. So does Ty, Deuce, Dina and Tinka. Cece and I on the other hand...as people would say, have faded. I got lost in my career to the point where I ignored her and I feel terrible.
That is one of the main reasons i’m back, to fix our friendship. From what Ty has told me, she’s not doing very well. There were times when I wanted to give up my whole career and just visit my stubborn friend.
As my thoughts faded I realized I had a pout on my face. “Oh honey, why are you pouting?! You’re about to see all your family and friends! Chin up, we’ll be there in a little bit.” I smiled as Allison, my current manager patted my leg reassuring me. Yes, Molly sent one of her employees to watch over me while I was in Chicago.
I had to admit, I had been in a terrible mood these past few years. I’ve gotten a few tattoos, they are small so people don’t really notice them often or right away. Molly used to let me drink but stopped as soon as it got out of hand. And sometimes, my attitude is just plain horrible. These are times where I really needed Cece. I knew my parents and everyone knew of this stuff because paparazzi follows me everywhere.
If I sneeze, the world knows about it in less than 5 minutes.
“We’re here!” Allison shouted and I rolled my eyes. It was practically her job to keep me safe..she was like my security guard. “I’ll be in Huffington Platon Hotel downtown. Call if you need me and don’t have too much fun! Oh, and remember Molly will be here in a few days so she can talk to you.” Allison informed me and I rolled my eyes again.
“Whyyyyy, this is my time offf”
“Honey, when you’re in this business, you never get time off. Plus I heard its really important...i’m not aloud to say anything. Go see you family and don’t get into another cat fight at a store like last week, I need a break myself.” she laughed, giving me a quick hug before pushing me out the car. I waved as the taxi drove off, Alli waving back. I wasn't proud of my recent actions, but I really wanted those boots and she had insulted me...that lady deserved it.
I giggled at myself, knowing my actions were out of hand. Hell, Molly yelled at me for days.
I turned around, suitcases by my sides, and stared at my old apartment building. I was home, finally. It didn’t take long for me to get to my parents apartment before I knocked on the door hurriedly. Immediately my mom appeared from behind the door and took me in her arms. She looked the same of course. We were both in tears, I missed her so much.
Next was Ty who crashed me in a huge bear hug as my mom went to get my suitcases out the hall. “I missed you little sis, you've gotten so..tall!” Ty chuckled between his tears. I laughed, wiping under my eyes, thank god for waterproof makeup.
“Aw, I missed you too TyBear!” I smirked when he rolled his eyes in annoyance.
“Shut up, I told you not to call me that!” I laughed and was led to the kitchen.
My mom couldn’t stop crying and Ty was constantly complimenting me on my success. He was saying I was now probably just a few inches shorter than him.
After reuniting with my mom and Ty we decided to go and visit the Jones’. I was excited to see Cece, Flynn and the whole gang. I was practically running to their door. I knocked excitedly on Georgia’s door and just like my mom, Cece’s mom appeared immediately, crashing me into a bear hug. “Oh my!! You look so grown and beautiful!! FLYNN! DEUCE, DINA, TINKA!! SHE’S HERE!!” Georgia grabbed my hand and led me to the living room where all my friends were.
Deuce was the first to attack me in a hug, mumbling about how much he missed his eyebrow waxer and that Dina once shaved his whole left eyebrow off and he had to draw it on for weeks til it grew back.
“HEY! It wasn’t that bad! You looked cute!” Dina shoved her boyfriend of I think 4 years now away before grabbing me in a hug. “Jeez, why are you so tall! How’d you get even taller? Oh my, your hair has grown!! You are so beautiful!!” Dina studied me and almost squealed.
“Did I mention she’s your biggest fan? She’s obsessed with you..” Tinka spoke in her sarcastic tone and I shook my head in amusement. “I don’t see why people would like you. Ugh what am I kidding? I missed you!” she smiled getting off the couch and giving me a quick hug.
“Move out my way woman, my wife has finally returned.” Flynn pushed everyone aside. Everyone laughed as Flynn handed me a dozen roses and I returned him with a kiss on the cheek. He blushed and that’s when I smiled widely. “Still have a little crush on me I see?” I pinched his cheeks, pulling him into a hug, and thanking him for the flowers.
“Come join us on the couch” I laughed as Flynn plopped me on the couch and sat in my lap. He’s in 9th grade now, my little bro has grown up. After a few minutes of catching up I realized Cece was not around.
“Hey guys? Where’s Cece?” I asked and the room became quiet quickly. “She’s with her girlfriend, Amy right now. She said she’ll be at Crusty’s so we should get going.” Deuce spoke up and everyone nodded. I smiled to hide surprise and sadness.
Cece has a girlfriend?
No, she’s not.
Shut up brain!
I shook my head and got up before following my everyone out the door, Flynn grabbing my hand. It’s true, I had a crush on Cece, I had for a while and only my friends knew of this.
Once we arrived safely at Crusty’s, my mood had been a bit down. I was in a pair of sweats and a sweater and my hair was in a ponytail. I liked to keep my outfits chill when i’m not modeling or doing events.
As so as we walked in Crusty’s, all eyes were on me. Some people were cheering, others congratulating me, some asking for pictures, others for autographs. I had gotten used to this. Of course Deuce, Dina, Tinka, Georgia, my mom and Flynn stayed behind looking at me in awe.
“Thanks guys!! If y'all don't mind i’m gonna go have dinner with my family now!! Nice to meet you all!!” I politely gave one last fan a hug before turning back to everyone. “So, where do we sit?” I smiled and Deuce led us all to a table in the back and that’s when I saw Cece and i’m guessing Amy.
“Hi, i’m Amy!” Amy introduced herself immediately and I smiled, shaking her hand. We were all seated around a round table. Cece was right across from me in between Ty and Amy. I was between Dina and Flynn. We looked at each other for a minute, deciding if we should greet each other or not, the table silent. I knew when Cece turned her gaze somewhere else ware that we were not on good terms.
The table was tense and quiet as Ty ordered pizza for all of us. “Oh my!! Its so nice to meet you!! Gosh, this is amazing, I’m a huge fan!! Cece basically had to keep me still til laughed along, everyone seeing it was fake. Some heads turned to me and Flynn nudged me under the table.
“So, how long have you been dating Cece, Amy?” I guess I caught Amy off guard by my almost annoyed sounding voice but before Amy could answer, Cece butted in.
“About 5 months, why do you care? Are you dating someone?” Cece widened her eyes at me almost testing me. I gulped.
“No, Cece I am not.” I shrugged and Amy nodded. “AMY, will you tell me more about you? I’d lik-”
“What are you doing? You think you can just come back and act like you haven't been ignoring me these past few years?!” everyone jumped at Cece’s yelling. Before Georgia could scold her she jumped up, grabbed her purse and grabbed Amy’s hand, both of them hurrying out the restaurant.
“Just give us a minute?” I turned to the rest at the table who all nodded. I quickly ran out of Crusty’s, fans and paparazzi all around, oh god. I shrugged them off and started walking down the sidewalk til I found Cece and Amy about two blocks away in a deserted black ally. I was glad no one was around so soon I approached the two.
“Look, Rocky, I honestly don’t think that right now is the time to talk to Cece. You broke her heart.” Amy rolled her eyes in my direction. They were huddled together, Amy giving Cece occasional reassuring and kisses. I wanted to puke. That should be me with Cece, not her.
“Cece, you know I am stubborn as hell and i’m not leaving til we have a talk, right fucking now.” My language of course made them pull away. I never was the one to cuss, not until lately. “Amy, could you maybe go back to the table and let me and Cece have a few minutes?” I asked as nicely as I could. This Amy chick needed to leave.
I watched as the two conversation for a minute, Amy giving Cece a quick kiss before walking back towards Crusty’s. After Amy got away far enough I took a few cautious steps towards Cece, who backed away each time. “Cece please..” I felt like crying. She needed to forgive me.
“Don’t. You listen right now. You broke my heart. When you left it was difficult, I know we skyped for a few months but that was it!! YOU IGNORED my CALLS, TEXTS, EVERYTHING!! You broke me. About a year ago, Amy moved here and I forgot about you. I loved you! Now Amy loves me and we’re happy.” she flipped her perfect orange curls from around her shoulder.
I felt terrible. The day I left Chicago we had promised each other we talked everyday. A few weeks before that we had confessed our feelings for each other. We never started dating or anything but we got closer.
To be honest seeing her mad was beautiful, only not when she was mad at me. Her eyes were red, she had been crying. I put my head down and shook my head. I looked up again and took her appearance in. She was taller, thinner, was a bit muscular. She looked brilliant in her dress and heels. Her makeup was perfect, she looked perfect.
“Cece, i’m sorry okay...I got so caught up in my business world and i’m sorry. I know we weren't dating when I left but it sure felt like it. That girl you saw on the magazine had forced me to kiss her, she was a reporter who was thirsty! Cece I cried every night that because I missed you. I came back hope to fix us, whatever we were. I love you Cece, don’t forget that..”
Cece looked off into the distance, avoiding eye contact. “Look, if its what you want, i’ll leave. I can visit again any other time. Matter of fact, i’ll be leaving next week, just...don’t forget that I love you and I always will love you.” I gave her a small smile before walking back towards Crusty’s.
I made sure to wipe my messed up makeup off before I approached the crowd again. “Excuse me, excuse me, no thank you, excuse me” Finally when I got out the crowd and into the building I walked back to our table in the back. The restaurant was empty and for once I was glad.
The table was loud but soon became silent when I sat back in my seat. Flynn got a piece of pineapple pizza foe me and I thanked him, my voice in a whisper. I knew my eyes were red, my makeup runny, my voice was also raspy. I looked around for Amy, she was gone.
“Where’s Amy?” I asked and Ty answered immediately. “She said Cece wanted to go home.” I nodded and started eating my pizza. Flynn decided to start conversation by telling me that I should speak about Cece. I rolled my eyes at first but decided to.
“So, I ran after Cece and we had a talk. I’ll be leaving in a few days. I
I’m sorry guys. I don’t even think Cece and me are friends anymore. So...” my mother’s eyes widened. “WHAT!?! You're leaving early?!” she shouted, everyone else nodding and shouting with her. I looked down at my lap for a minute before yelling “GUYS!! My security guard once told me ‘In this business, you never get a break. I’ll visit more often. Molly, my manager comes tomorrow and we have a meeting but after that I got like 3 more days with y'all!!” they all murmured and shrugged.
“So, what about we got to the skating rink tomorrow night? All of us could just have a skate night? It’ll be fun!” Georgia suggested and we all smiled.
“SKATING IT IS!!” I cheered and everyone laughed, deciding to get off the topic of Cece. I was lucky to have a family like that. For the rest of our dinner, we caught up on each others lives and there was just one person in the back of my mind the whole time. Cece Jones.
