7. Why Do I Even Try
Once we get to the restaurant, Taylor is a complete gentleman. He opens every door, pulls my chair and pushes me in once I'm sitting down.
" Can I start you two off with some drinks?" the waitress asks politely, eyeing my stomach.
" Sweet tea," I answer.
" Same as her," Taylor says, turning to smile at me.
Once the waitress has turned and left, Taylor asks," So have you put any thought into me being a part of this baby's life?"
" Well, I want you to be a part of her life, most definitely. But I don't want her around you unless we're both there. I know that may seem selfish or strict, but it's not final. We'll work something out," I explain.
" Do you know why I asked you to dinner tonight?"
" No," I respond.
" Here's your sweet teas. Can I get y'all some appetizers or are y'all ready to order?" the waitress, Lizzy, asks.
" Bread sticks," Taylor responds, not missing a beat.
She turns around to retrieve our bread sticks and he returns to his explanations, his caramel eyes piercingly serious.
" It was because I wanted to actually get to know you. I don't just want to know our baby, I want to know you, too. I want us to have a relationship."
