I heard a slight knock at my dressing room door. I silenced my tears but didn't move from the couch.
I was relieved to hear a friendly voice from the other side of the door, "Lily?? Lily, you in there??" It was Megan.
My voice was too weak to answer, so I just waited to see what Megan would do. To my relief, she opened the door to my small room and went over to me. My back was turned to her, so she couldn't see I was crying.
"What happened?" She asked, placing her hand on my shoulder.
I slowly turned, revealing my make-up stained face to her.
"Oh!" She said, quickly grabbing tissues and drying my tear-filled face. I slightly sniffled. "Was it Alex?" She asked. I nodded, causing her to hug me. "I know, she can be hard sometimes."
"Isn’t s-s-she supp-posed to be easy on m-me?" I asked as I struggled to talk.
"She’s not easy on anyone. What did she say to you?"
"She said I didn’t look like a model. I wasn’t good enough! I'm nothing..." At that point I couldn't help myself; tears began spilling out and I cried into Megan's arms.
"Shh.. It’s OK. She’s just doing that to be mean. She’s always like that..."
"I'm nothing, Megan! Why am I even here?" At this point I was seriously considering leaving.
"No, stop, and because you love modeling. I don’t think you’d be here if you weren’t this passionate. Most of the models just leave after Alex tells them they suck."
"Well I'm about to leave."
"Lily, stop. That would be a horrible decision, and we both know that."
I paused for a minute, thinking about Megan's words. "Did it ever happen to you?" I asked.
"Yes.. My second day here. She kept telling me that I was horrible and I didn’t deserve this job. And I can’t usually take that stuff, but I realized she was giving me constructive criticism.. And that’s helped me through life. Even though she’s being mean and telling you that you shouldn’t be here... I mean, you should take that as constructive criticism in a way. It helped me get through this place, and I’m still trying to get through it. Try looking at it that way."
I was intrigued by Megan's story. "Does it really work?"
"For me it did, but we're practically sisters now so it should work for you too," she said, a huge smile appearing across her face.
I had only known Megan for a few days, but I honestly felt like we could be sisters. We had so much in common and I practically already knew everything about her.
I smiled back, "Thanks Megan." I hugged her until she pulled back and sprung a question.
"Sooo... Guess what?!"
"I found out where One Direction live. Like their house at this very moment."
I started laughing at her sarcasm. "That's funny."
"But the reason I found it is completely reasonable."
I suddenly realized it wasn't sarcasm. "Oh, you're serious?"
She looked me in the eyes. "We're going there."
"Woah, slow down. We're not going to One Direction's house and stalking them."
"Yes we are! And we're not gonna stalk them, Lil!"
"Megan, it’s bad enough they know who I am. Do we seriously need to stalk them until they leave me alone?"
"IT'S NOT STALKING! We’re gonna figure out if Harry really likes you. I know I said he does, but now that I’m thinking about it, I think it may be fake."
"I'm not going." I simply refused. I wanted nothing to do with Harry. I just wanted everything to go away.
"You have to!"
"Do you want Jennifer Perry to ruin your life?"
"Exactly! Come on, get dressed. We're leaving in ten minutes."
I watched as Louis sung his solo in Save You Tonight. Even though it wasn't one of the songs off of Take Me Home, the boys and I declared it our favorite song and begged management to put it on the setlist. We finished the song with the crowd roaring at us for more.
"Alright guys, I'm afraid this is going to have to be the last song tonight!"
All five of us heard tons of fans screaming 'no' at us.
"We're so glad you enjoyed the concert..."
I heard Liam start his sentence but never heard a conclusion. I started to fade out and sat on the stage, pretzel style. I put my head down in my lap for a second, feeling dizzy and nauseous. I heard the notes to Little Things and looked up to find all the boys sitting at the edge of the stage. None of them had seemed to noticed I was in my little spot, but I was alright with that; I didn't want to cause a commotion. I watched as Zayn began to sing, then Liam. He kept glancing back at me, but I tried avoiding his gaze as much as I could. The chorus eventually came around and all the boys, except me, sang. When it was Louis' solo, Liam got up and sat next to me. He gave me a 'what's the matter?' look, but I ignored it. I heard Niall strumming his guitar but I heard nobody singing, and I realized it was my cue. Liam was about to tell me I had missed it, but I got fed up with him too quickly.
"LIAM JUST GO AWAY!" I screamed.
There was silence. Niall had stopped playing and the fans had stopped screaming. The arena was dead silent. Seconds later, a few of the girls in the arena started crying.
A girl shouted out to me, "What are you doing Harry? Liam's your best friend!" Tears were rolling down her cheeks as I turned from looking at her back to the boys, who all stared at me with blank expressions.
Niall ran over to me and grabbed my arm. "Haz, what are you doing?"
I pushed him away and ran backstage, not looking back for a split second.
The last few seconds had just flashed in front of my eyes. What just happened? Harry flipped out on Liam for some unknown reason, and now the boys and I were stuck in an arena with crying girls. To my relief, Liam took the next step.
"Um.. so sorry about that. We hope to see you all soon... We love you!"
"Bye, lads!" Niall slowly waved as the four of us ran backstage to try and find Harry. Him and I still weren't talking much, but he was still like a brother to me, and I love him. We all started calling out Harry's name, but there was no answer to any of them.
"Haz, where are you?"
Liam, Zayn, and Niall ran up the hallway, trying to find Paul. I saw the dressing room door and opened it to find Harry crying his heart out on the couch.
"Harry!" I was so relieved to have found him.
He looked at me for a second. "W-what do you w-want?" He asked, struggling to talk.
"What happened out there? You’ve never done that before..." I sat next to him and put my arm around his shoulder. Harry was my best friend, I couldn't stay mad at him forever.
"I don't know I just..." He didn't speak for a second.
Out of nowhere, Liam, Niall, and Zayn came bursting into the room. Liam looked directly at Harry and started walking towards him.
"You. You evil little-"
"Stop!" I stood up in front of Harry, shielding him from Liam.
"Shut up, Lou! Just shut up!"
I was fed up with Liam at this point and was done with his bullshit. "Don’t you ever tell me to shut up! Never again!"
I heard Harry stand up behind me as Liam rolled his eyes at me. I knew his next words would be directed at Harry, and they wouldn't be kind ones.
"What's the matter with you?!" Liam yelled.
"Don't you know what I'm going through?!" Harry yelled back.
"We were in the middle of a show!"
"SO do you know how disappointed all those fans were?"
"They were not!"
I knew Harry was trying to get out of this mess. I had a feeling it's something he'd never forget, and with Liam's help, he definitely wouldn't forget it.
"Then how come the entire arena went dead silent?"
"Because I said something!"
"Yeah, they’re supposed to cheer and scream, not cry and go dead silent!"
"Just go away, Liam."
"Fine." Liam walked out with Zayn and Niall right behind him. I watched as Harry sat back down on the couch and started crying again. I wrapped him in a hug and promised him it was all going to be alright.
This was definitely not the way the last show should've ended.
