The race for the car
It was lunch time when I got up and glanced in the mirror. I was wearing my PJs but I could remember coming home and getting into my bed. I shrugged it off. I must of been so tired after meeting grandmother. I felt a large blank space in my memory and however hard I strained I could not fill in the blanks. Chris walked in looking worriedly at me.
‘What happened last night?’ I shrugged. I felt panic override my system. ‘I can’t remember anything? I feel so lost. Chris pulled me into a hug. I hugged him back.
‘We went to Joe’s shooting range. You beat this crap out of a boxing thing. Joe had to buy a new one. Knocked it straight off the wall.’ That made me feel a bit better.
‘I am starving hungry. Where is my father?’ Chris smiled.
‘He is getting the jet ready. You are flying back over to Ethelburgesa tonight. He found out you were missing and is taking no more chances. You will of course be coming back for holidays, social events and for school.’ I pulled back from the hug.
‘You are coming with me. Right?’ He nodded. Jane burst into the room. Shooing Chris out in the same moment.
‘No because you are going by jet you can take anything you want.’ I nodded.
‘I’ll just get all my things.’ I started through the clothes I wanted onto the floor. All the things I needed. Wash bag, hairbrush, makeup, hair stuff. Lets just say it was a very long list. Chris poked his head around the corner.
‘Taylor- Maybe later.’ I was fighting with Jane over a shirt.
‘You can’t take it. It will be too hot to wear it!’ She wailed.
‘What if by a freak accident it snows. I am going to live there permanently am I not. Why can’t I take it?’
I walked down the stairs followed by a grumpy Jane. Mark and Chris went to get my bags. I had over six large suitcases which were full of the clothes Jane wanted me to take. Once they were hauled into the boot of the car we left for Birmingham Airport.
The jet was waiting for us as we walked through passport control. The man behind the counter looked so chuffed when Chris and I handed over our passports. We were taking a commercial flight over. It was a race between our fathers and us.
‘Flight 870 to Ethelburgesa is now boarding.’ A female voice rang out. Chris grabbed our tickets and passports and hurried us towards the gate. I saw the jet take off down the runway, Chris and I walked faster, almost running to get to the gate.
We were placed immediately into the royal section. An air hostess walked over to us.
‘Is there anything we can get you?’
‘Yeah. We are kinda racing my father home and he just took off. Can we have wheels up as soon as possible?’ She nodded. Chris tensed up again when we took off. I took his hand for him to hold to have comfort from.
‘Hey. It’s okay. I’m here.’ He nodded. His face was contorted with pain.
As we landed Chris gripped my hand so hard my fingers went white. I used my other hand to rescue it from Chris.
‘I do need my hand Chris.’ I said quietly. He nodded and let go. The jet landed the same time we did. I was rushed out onto the tarmac with Chris. It soon became a flat out race to get to Mark in the Limo. Chris and I got there first. He yanked open the door and dived in followed by me. I found two glasses of champagne and handed one to Chris.
‘To the winners?’ He nodded.
‘To the winners.’ We tapped glasses and took a sip. My father was hardly out of breath as he made his way into the car after Lord Baenziger.
‘I think that was for me.’ Chris raised an eyebrow.
‘But we got here first.’ He took another sip of champagne as if he was taunting his father. Dad just shrugged.
‘If you get drunk don’t blame me.’ Titus glared at my father.
‘Tony! You should not tell a sixteen year old do that. You should be giving them fake ID’s and sending them to clubs and then she can take pot.’ My father looked horrified.
‘Mother would kill me if I took Taylor anywhere near a club.’ Chris snickered.
Mark drove us right up to the front door. My grandmother came storming out. She was holding a news paper.
‘TAYLOR ATHENA AYERS! CHRISTOPHER CASTIEL BALTHAZAR BAENZIGER! WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?’ She screeched. Chris stood with his back to her facing me. He put his hands on my shoulders and gazed into my eyes.
‘Did you read the newspaper I gave you?’ I shook my head. I had forgotten all about it. Chris started to run his hands through his hair.
‘Oh gods.’ My grandmother stormed up to my father and shoved the paper into his hands.
‘Look what the world is coming to.’ She stomped off forcefully slamming the door shut. My father glanced down at the paper.
ROYAL BABY COMING UP?
This reporter was having a casual dinner when in comes her majesty the princess of Ethelburgesa and Lord Baenziger. This couple have been seen together for the best part of the last year. Is there something going on between them? Lord Baenziger decided to walk quickly to the lavatory while her majesty started becoming more interested in her mobile phone. When he came back he went on one knee and we from the Daily Country Times saw a sparkle. Her majesty nodded and they got up. Her majesty did keep her left hand well hidden. Is there a secret behind this engagement or are they really in love? We have started to think there is another Baenziger on the way. We can only hope. I will keep you all posted. Earth Rainbow
