I woke up the next morning, alone, and decided to take a shower, before I went for a run. As I was running, I felt like I was being watched, so I turned off my music, and slowed my run down to a walk. I knew that I could handle myself, but if the person following me was an Original, then I would be in trouble.
“I know you’re there, so just show yourself.” I said as confidently as I could.
“You know, it’s dangerous to be running alone.” a voice said from behind me.
I turned around and saw that it was Elijah. I was shocked that it was him, but then I thought about it, and knew that I would be safe because he made a deal with Elena.
“Maybe, but I’m not afraid of taking risks.” I told Elijah with a slight smile.
Elijah chuckled before saying, “Where are my manners, I’m Elijah.”
“Nice to meet you Elijah, I’m Ryleigh.” I giggled before shaking his hand.
“The pleasure is mine.” Elijah said back as we broke our hands apart.
We talked for a little while longer and Elijah walked me all the way back to my house. I was shocked that he knew where I lived, and when I went to ask him about it, it simply said, “Elena lives down the road, and it wasn’t hard to put the pieces together.” I felt stupid after that, but then I couldn’t put my finger on how he knew that I was going to ask that.
“How did you know I was going to ask you about how you knew where I lived?” I asked as we got to my door.
“It was written all over your face. Plus, I could tell by the look on your face that you were confused, so I thought that I would answer the obvious question.” Elijah replied without missing a beat.
“Well, thanks, I think, and thank you for everything you’re doing for Elena. I know it must be difficult to try and protect someone you barely know from your family.” I said with a genuine smile as I unlocked my door.
Elijah didn’t really say anything after that, and when I turned around he was gone. I was shocked by that, but maybe he knew that he would be letting his walls down if he talked about his family with a complete stranger. I went in my house, took a shower, changed clothes, and headed to the grill, where I met Stefan, who had just hung up the phone.
“What are you doing here?” I asked Stefan as I went to sit down.
“I was talking to Alaric, and he told me that he left Damon a message because the (he tried to mimic a wolf growl) is here.” Stefan replied as he nodded his head toward Jules.
“Wow! I can’t believe that’s her. I met her once, and I knew that I couldn’t shake this feeling that something was off about her.” I said with a shiver. Stefan didn’t get a chance to say anything else because he looked up and headed toward the door. I turned my head, saw Damon, and went to them.
“What are you doing here?” Damon asked as he looked between Stefan and me.
I didn’t respond to Damon because it looked like Stefan needed to say something that was more important.
“Waiting for you. Listen, there’s a lot of people here.” Stefan replied, and I knew what he was referring to.
“Damn, there goes my plan to rip her spleen through her back.” Damon said back sarcastically.
I rolled my eyes at him, but I knew that Damon wasn’t dumb enough to pick a fight with a wolf in a room full of people.
“Hey, I know you’re upset about Rose.” Stefan said, and that confused me. I knew she was bit, but I thought she was getting better.
“Why does everyone think I’m upset about Rose? I’m fine. I don’t know if you know this, sometimes vampires die. I’m gonna have a friendly chat with lady wolf, brother. Ease up.” Damon said before Stefan walked away to answer his phone.
“Please be careful Damon.” I said as I lightly grabbed his wrist before he could walk off.
“Don’t worry about me Ry. I’m just going to talk to her, and that’s all.” Damon replied before he lightly kissed the top of my head, which is weird for him, and walked over to Jules.
I decided to wait for him, and I was glad that I did because the conversation seemed to be not going as Damon had planned. When Jules was headed out the door, Damon jumped up and grabbed her arm, so I decided to step in.
“Damon, let’s not do this here, please.” I said as I stepped closer to Damon.
“Who is this? I think you were the girl that I was growling at.” Jules said as she looked at me.
“I am that girl thank you very much, and now I’ll never look at another wolf again, thanks to you, but neither of you are going to do anything because I’ll put you both down.” I said back as I stood my ground.
Jules left without saying a word, and I knew that Damon was probably pissed at me. We both walked out of the Grill, and that’s when Damon let me have it, or so I thought.
“I wouldn’t have done anything, Ryleigh, don’t you trust me?” Damon asked as he drove us to the Boarding House, since I walked to the Grill.
“I do trust you Damon, but I don’t trust Jules. How do I know that she wouldn’t have done something to you?” I replied back with a question because I was curious.
Damon didn’t say anything else because we arrived at the Boarding House, but the door was open. Damon told me to stay in the car, but I didn’t listen and carefully walked into the house just in time for Damon to scare Elena.
“You okay? Where’s Rose?” Damon asked as Elena tried to calm her breathing.
“I don’t know.” Elena replied, and I had an idea of why she didn’t know.
We headed out to Damon’s car and started looking for Rose, when Sheriff Forbes called. We met up with her, but Damon was the only one who saw the body, thank God, but then he came back over to us, gave Elena a stake, and told us to come with him. We did, and ended up finding Rose, but she had already killed 2 more people. Rose attacked Damon and they rolled around till Damon ended up on top.
“Rose. Rose. It’s me. It’s Damon. It’s Damon. It’s Damon. It’s Damon.” Damon said as he was restraining Rose. I felt so bad for her because I knew that she would feel so guilty afterwards.
“Did I do this? Oh, my God. I didn’t mean to hurt anybody. I never wanted to hurt anybody.” Rose said while sobbing.
“I know. I know. I know.” Damon said while trying to calm her down.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” Rose said as she looked at me and Elena. We didn’t know what to say because we knew that this wasn’t her fault.
“Come on, let’s get you home.” Damon said as he got Rose up off the ground.
“No, I don’t have a home. I haven’t had a home in so long.” Rose said while pulling away from Damon.
We all looked at her with sad faces because we didn’t know what to say.
“Oh, make it stop. Please, make it stop. I hate it. Make it stop.” Rose said while sobbing hysterically.
Damon looked between me and Elena, before looking at Rose and saying, “Come on.” He then lifted Rose up and we all went back to the Boarding House.
I stayed away from Damon’s room, but I couldn’t help myself when I heard Rose say something about Damon caring and it slips through his fingers. I then heard Damon tell Elena to go because Rose was in so much pain, but I went in there and took Elena’s spot.
“I thought I told you to stay downstairs.” Damon said as Rose finally calmed down.
“You did, but you also know that I usually don’t do as I’m told, plus I wanted to be here for Rose.” I said back as I slowly slid into Damon’s bed. I sat next to Damon, who had Rose leaning back against him.
I just sat next to Damon and we just watched Rose sleep. I slowly laid my head on his shoulder because I knew what was fixing to happen. I watched as Damon slowly brought the stake up to Rose’s heart, and slowly stake her with it. He also let a tear slide down his face, but he wasn’t the only one.
After that Damon and I met with the Sheriff, but only Damon talked to her, and then he took me home. Before I could say anything, Damon drove off, and I knew that he would probably do something stupid. I went into my house, took a shower, and when I came out, Damon was sitting on my bed with blood around his mouth.
“Who was it this time?” I asked as I handed him a tissue.
“I don’t remember Ryleigh. I was too busy ripping her throat out to ask her name.” Damon replied while wiping the off his face.
I rolled my eyes at him, but tried not to laugh because at least he was completely honest with me. I went to lie in my bed, and as usual, Damon followed me. I snuggled into him, and just laid there.
“I’m gonna miss her.” I whispered, but I knew that he heard me.
Damon took longer than normal to answer, but when he did, he shocked me. “Me too, Ryleigh. Me too.”
I hope that we never have to go through this ever again. I hate this pain, but I know that something will be done, and the wolves will pay for this.
As of right now, I plan on honing my powers and helping protect the people I love. Well I’m going to bed, and I hope tomorrow is better than today was.
