1. When You Were Alive

When the older kids

laugh

like life's a comedy act

but you just want to listen to

the sound of the wheels on

Tarmac roads.

When the empty seat next to you's

silence

is like a roaring storm

but you just want to listen to

his voice talking on

repeat forever.

When the colourless rain

slaps

the ground like they're arguing

but you just want to listen to

the two make up like you

and him.

When your watch

ticks

like it hasn't already done so for years

but you just want to listen to the

monitor bleeping in time

with him.

When the scenery

flashes

by like a whirlwind

but you just want to see it slow down

like you wanted time to

for him.

When the coach

crashes head on

like a raging bull

but you just want to feel his hand

like he felt yours when

he died.

When the blackness

falls

like a rain cloud shot from the sky

but you just want to fall his arms

like you did when you were ill and not dead.

When that happens

you know

you're safe

with him.
