I called out into the darkness for the assurance that someone human would join me. There was no answer. Moving through the darkness, I tentatively eased my barefoot way across the cool wooden floor, hoping to find a light switch, a lamp, a candle. I found none. I tried to take a deep breath to focus on adjusting my eyes to the darkness. The silence was thick as cotton, stuffing my ears and muffling even the sound of my own heartbeat. Then I heard a crash.
I tiptoed my way across the room, hardly making a sound. Then I was tackled. Laying beside me was a man, no, a boy. He wore a white hoodie, black dress pants, had a smile carved into his face, and burnt out eyelids. I instantly know who it was. Jeff the killer. That's when I saw his knife. Lunging at me with the knife, I scampered away just as the knife hit the wood where my shoulder was moments before. Getting to my feet, I turned to the door, only to freeze and whimper as I heard Jeff laugh behind me. Standing in the doorway was Jane the killer, Jeff's fiancé. In her hand was a gun, aimed straight at me.
"Go back to Jeff or I'll shoot," she whispered, smirking. Backing up, I went back to Jeff, who wrapped his arm around my waist.
"Mmh, Jane, I think we should keep her. What do you think?" Jeff asked her, picking up the knife. He placed it on my cheek putting pressure on it and slid it down my cheek, leaving a crimson line of blood. Whimpering, I scrambled in his arms wanting to get away from him and his knife.
"Babe, she will just get in the way of us. Remember it just suppose to be you and me?" she said, taking a step forward.
"Jane, we need her and since you wouldn't let me have what I want, then I will force it out of her." Jeff looked up and met Jane's stare.
"Jeff, I will give it to you just let's kill her," Jane whispered, pointing the gun at me again.
"Do you agree on keeping her or not Jane?" Jeff asked in a stern voice, becoming angry with her.
"Fuck no. She will ru--" Jeff threw the knife at her, making it land right on her heart. Jane looked bewildered and fell to the floor, dead.
Jeff let go of me and went to look at Jane. Closing her eyes, he said, "I'm the boss here not you. Go to sleep, my love."
See my chance, I turning and smashed the window. Jumping out, I landed safely and started running. In the distant I hear Jeff yell, "I will find you, my pretty, and I will torture you and make you mine! We will be the same and we will look alike! Go to sleep, Star!"
~the next day~
"Mother! I'm home!" I yelled, closing the door and threw her bag onto the kitchen counter. I walked to the fridge and pulled out a water. 'Well that's strange. Mother always says something back," I thought, opening the water and started walking to her room. Nudging the door open, I gasped. The walls were covered in blood, the floor, the ceiling, everything had blood on it and in the middle of everything was Mother. Decapitate. Falling to the floor, I cried and cried, until I realized I had to call the police. Grabbing Mother's phone, I dialed the police.
"Hello, how may I help you?" the operator asked.
"My mother was d-decapitate," I whispered, almost started crying again but stop myself before I could.
"Ma'am, Where do you live? We will send police right away."
"1402 Lane Avenue."
"The police are on their way now. Please go to a neighbor or call a friend, just don't stay alone." the operator hung up and I was left in silence. Going back to the kitchen, I grabbed my phone and looked though my contacts. From the corner of my eye, I saw a shadow walk past the doorway that leads to the living room. Being the curious little Star I am; I walked into the living room and found someone sitting on the couch.
"Uhm, who are you and why are you in my house?" I asked, walking around the couch to get a better look at the stranger.
"Babe, I told you I would torture you and you will be torture by many deaths. Then it will be your turn to feel the pain," he whispered, making me realize who he was.
"You can't be here and I'm asking you to leave," I whispered, backing away slowly. Jeff got up from the couch and walked toward me.
"Now,love, why would I leave you alone to deal with your mother's death?" he asked, backing me up into the wall right next to the door. I flung myself into the kitchen, looking for a knife. Jeff wrapped his arms around my waist and flung me onto the ground. Screaming, I scrambled away from him and into the living room. In the distant, I heard the police sirens coming down the street.
"You called the fucking police?!" he yelled, running to the window.
"Fuck!" He run to the back door and took of running into the woods behind my house.
"Police! Open the door or we are coming in!" Someone yelled from the side of the door.
"It's open!" I yelled, trying to get up but fell back down. The door flung open and the officer saw me and rushed to my side.
"Ma'am, why are you alone? You were suppose to call someone," he said, picking me up and placed me on the couch.
"I was about tu when the killer attack me. He left through the back door when he heard the police sirens." I pointed to the back door and the broken window.
"Okay, Ma'am what is your name?" The officer asked getting up and got out his little notepad.
"That an unusual name, but it's very beautiful," He said, smiling and wrote my name down.
"Thanks," I whispered and sat on the couch. The officer went back to my mother's room and started taking pictures and writing things in his little notebook.
"Uhm, Star? Did you notice this when you were in here?" The officer yelled. Jumping up, I went to the room and gasped.
On the wall in Mother's blood was:
"I will get you, Star. We will look alike and be together forever! But first, I want what I wanted from the other first.
Go to sleep, Star."
