Two Years Later...
"Emma, hurry up and get into the car, will ya?" Ashton yells from the kitchen door. Grabbing the keys over their hook, I shout "Coming!" and grab my bag before starting the house alarm and locking the door behind us. "We're going to be late!" Ashton says frantically before unlocking the car and getting in on his side, and I follow suit. He starts the car and pulls out of the driveway.
"Did you call Management and tell them we're running ten minutes late?" I ask him and he groans.
"No, they scare me! Can you do it?"
"You're the one in the famous band! I can get fired! You can fire them!" I say quickly and exasperatedly, he pulls out his phone and dials the number.
"I'm putting it on speaker."
"Good, then we won't die before we get there." He laughs before the dial tone stops.
"Hello, this is Viola, how can I help you?"
"Hey, it's Ashton, can you please tell Jasper I'm running ten minutes late for our dinner meeting?"
"Sure thing. Thanks for the call." Viola hangs up. Ashton sighs and places his phone in my lap.
"He's going to be there tonight."
"I know." I sigh. Luke. It's not that I haven't seen him, just not in person. For over two years. That is one long amount of time. I've definitely changed, and I know that he must have as well. I have a lot of things going for me currently, and this meeting is one of them. My song writing career is going really well, and I'm still working for 5 Seconds of Summer. I live with Ashton, when he's in town, and I love him, he's been my best friend for the last two years. I'm in a good place, but I miss Luke.
Ashton pulls into the restaurant's parking lot and parks the car. "Are you going to be okay?"
"Um... Yeah. Can we just... Can we just sit here for a moment?"
"Yeah." Ashton takes my hand and squeezes it.
"Okay. I'm good. Let's go." We get out of the car and walk into the restaurant after locking the car.
The classy jazz music at the bar is smooth. It's a classy expensive restaurant. Ashton and I walk over to the table and give our greetings to the three men sitting there.
"Let's go to the bar." Ashton giggles in my ear and grabs my hand.
I think I see some familiar blonde hair, but I ignore it because I'll have to talk to him sometime soon. Just hopefully not right now.
"What?" I ask him.
Ashton's brown eyes are a little frantic.
"You-know-who is here. Across the bar."
"Who, Voldemort? We've discussed this, the name isn't even that scary as it is weird." I laugh, rolling my eyes.
Then I look across the bar. Now I feel frantic. I thought the blonde-haired man looked familiar.
Damn, Luke looks good. He's tall, smiley, and he looks even sexier with the lip ring now. He notices me looking at him and his jaw almost drops.
I wave sheepishly.
"What's up?" Luke and Ashton start talking and I feel extremely awkward.
I don't want to be here. That was literally all I could think about as my ex and my best friend chatted casually in front of me. They were discussing the bands and how business was going well in the industry, but I just couldn't keep my mind on it. It's like they had forgotten everything that had happened while I was sitting here helplessly, letting the memories flood back into my mind.
I keep thinking of Luke and I. With Luke, I can be myself, and it all comes naturally. I steal glances at Luke, and I catch him staring at me a couple times. Each time, we exchange a smile, a big grin on his part and an awkward and small smile on mine.
"Emma, I loved your writing of 'Kiss Me Kiss Me'. " Luke says smiling, obviously trying to get me in to a conversation I can participate in.
He's talking about the song I wrote, along with Ashton and Calum's help. Of course. Luke knows that I wrote it because he did the final editing. I mean, it's not like I've been cut off from Luke completely. We've exchanged some texts, but I haven't seen him. He is usually off camera when we talk about music. I've only heard his voice.
"Thanks, I wrote it for my friend." I say awkwardly.
Everyone in the 5SOS band is aware that I wrote that about Luke, even Luke himself.
Ashton chuckles. "I'm gonna go to the bathroom."
I just nod at him before he strides away, leaving me alone with Luke. I play with the straw on my drink, refusing to look at him. Without anybody with us, I was terribly afraid on how this conversation would go. Luke suddenly pushes my drink away from reaching distance as he scoots his chair closer, forcing me to look up at him.
"For your friend? Really?" The smirk was evident on his face as he called me out.
What the hell do I say? My words seemed to jumble together in my mouth and I couldn't think of what to say. I hadn't seen Luke in so long and I didn't know what to think about it. He was bringing back all these unwanted memories and I hated it, but he was still Luke.
"Yeah, well, it was mostly my fault so I tried to fix it." I mumble, finally forcing the words out.
His face is thoughtful as he studies my expression. A lot of things have changed in my life and I was still trying to fully get over him. Then he just shows up and ruins everything. All the walls I had built, they were crashing down as he stared at me with those ocean blue eyes.
I shake my head, dispelling all thoughts of him.
I wish I could tell him everything like I used to. He was my best friend a long time ago and now we were as close as strangers.
"I wish I could tell you everything, but there is the matter of time and place, of which we have neither."
"Then come over, I share a flat with Ashton. I promise no funny business." He grins as he holds up his right hand.
I bit my lip, thinking over my options. Would it be good to be alone with Luke? Well, Ashton would be there.
"Sure, why not?" I sigh.
Luke shoots me a grin as we get up from our seats. I dig a $20 out of my purse and leave it on the table before following Luke out of the bar. We wait at the front for Ashton and then head out.
Yes. Things are different. Likey?
